I have had type 2 for about 15 years and until last November, 12 months ago, was on tablets alone but at that time started on insulin - humulin 1.
I take 1 dose of 28 units at 4pm every day on the advice of the diabetic nurse at the local hospital.
What I don't understand is that despite this and also taking Metformin and Gliclazide my blood levels are usually over 10 and normally around 12-14.
My question is this, they have been so for some time and my inital dose of 10 units of insulin has been steadily increased and is now 28, but how much increase should make a diffence - from 20 units to 28 units over a space of many weeks has seemed to make no difference in sugar levels - what amount of insulin increase should show a good result, I would like to get my levels down to 8 or less in the morning and hopefully most of the day too.

Hi. Are you overweight? Needing to gradually increase insulin implies you may be building insulin resistance due to the level of carbs you are eating? Are you low-carbing to avoid weight gain with insulin? If you aren't overweight then I'm afraid I can't offer any suggestions; sorry

I am a newbie LADA and much of what is said in the forum is going over my head at the moment. However I am catching up fast.
I,am not sure about carbs and insure asking BG levels. I am trying to cut, down on carbs as,I am overweight, but not gross. Do less carbs = rising BG levels ? Should I eat more carbs I. Order to keep my BG at lower levels ?
Many thanks
Alan
