Hi need advice have been on metformin and linagliptin for nearly 2 years however my blood sugars have decided to creep up again I've been told that I can go on a new glp1 drugs but this is not a good decision for me as I have history of pancreatitis kidney disease and heart disease so according to the manufacturers of the glp1 drugs say they are not advised for people such as me and my doctor therefore wants me to go on to insulin instead. I don't want to go on this because I heard that you can lose your driving licence....can anyone help

Hi @xtessa1x,

The most important thing here is your health and well-being. So if that means passing on the GLP-1 incretin mimetics and using insulin then so be it.

You won't lose your driving license so don't worry. You'll probably be issued with a 3 yearly license, where it'll get renewed after each 3 yearly period providing you haven't developed any diabetes related complications/issues that affect your ability to safely handle a vehicle.

Other than what grantgam1337 has said, one obvious thing you may have already tried but not mentioned, have you tried changing your diet to help control the blood sugars instead?

Gone on to a low carb diet as of Sunday have to see DN at the end of December
Waking blood still 9.9

Morning levels are the last to come down and probably the least useful for gauging how you are doing. The best gauge is your post meal readings. Give yourself a couple of weeks for your body to adapt to the low carb. You may be surprised at just how well you can do.

Good for you, give it time - it will bring your numbers down. test before a meal and 2hrs after then you'll know if that meal was good for you or not - best keep written notes too, it all helps.
