Since original shock / surprise on 26 April 2019 of my diagnosis, I started following a LCHF diet that same weekend and started testing BGl. I wasn't prepared for the first major change though........

I have been on PPI's / Ranitidine for many years due to GERD - even when i was young and thin, it was a huge problem, which just got worse as I became older (and fatter!) So imagine my surprise that within the first week, the GERD has disappeared. Totally.
From Esomeprazole 40mg daily and Ranitidine 300mg at night.......to NOTHING. I have ZERO reflux, can eat oily fish without it repeating on me for the first time ever........
Although I am a doctor myself, I certainly didn't know about this possible effect......nor did my GP when I told him I didn't need the GERD meds at the moment........

I am amazed (in a good way, of course!)

Still on the LCHF diet - weight loss has slowed a little but work has been hectic and stressful so am not too concerned. At least the weight is dropping along with the blood sugar levels.......

Yes improvements in gerd, blood pressure, depression, inflammation generally, of gums specifically, bloating, flatulence, hair growth rate and texture, eyesight due to lower blood sugars, clarity of though, energy levels, resting heart rate, asthma, ibs and more have all been reported. Probably not scientifically proved but wide spread anecdotal evidence

Amazing isn’t it?

Well done! :D
Am so pleased for you. :)

I used to get apparently random mild indigestion, and then reflux when i slept, but only after large meals.
Once i cut the carbs and went gluten free I eventually noticed it had all gone way. :D

My GERD has disappeared too on low carb! I still take a small dose of esomeprazole, but I haven’t touched Gaviscon for two years now. Esomeprazole is next on my list of meds to dispense with. I’ve already dropped one BP med and reduced the dose of the other one.

Thank you for sharing this with the community, Doctor's often get a hard time.

I watched a video today where this wonderful protocol has been used to resolve chronic migraines. It can't fix Brexit, but is it is very good with modern conditions. Clearly the correct food is medicine as well as pleasurable, obvious when you think about it. Really pleased for you.

I find these threads heartwarming. Most of us embark on a lower carb lifestyle to improve our blood glucose levels and maybe to shed any excess pounds but it is these hidden extras that can bring a smile and an air punch that we may never have dreamed could happen. The simple thing of being able to lower the dose of a drug or discontinue it altogether is such a milestone and adds conviction to staying with the 'programme'.

I can say with hand on heart that I have yet to hear of anyone stating that a particular condition or symptom has been negatively affected by cutting out the hyper palatable, carb heavy foods from their diet.

Couldn’t agree more @Guzzler

Hopefully you'll start to prescribe this way of eating to your patients too.. de-prescribing I'm sure would feel so good to do!

Sorry for my ignorance, but what is GERD ?
Don’t apologise, it’s gastro oesophageal reflux disease (heartburn or indigestion) . It used to be called GORD in the UK but we seem to have gone American by adopting the E for esophageal

Quick update just to say that I have still not needed medication for the old reflux complaint..........I think my patients and colleagues are getting tired of my newfound diet mantra!!!! :)

This has been my experience, and we had a thread a while back started by someone else with similar experiences, It's also put and end to hayfever for some of us too...
Migraines presumably clobbered because ketones will positively affect our brains (e.g. ketogenic diets originally used for treating epileptic seizures, and also now being investigated with respect to Alzheimers...)

With apologies for slightly derailing.

Sadly my migraine have got worse in the last year on low carb /keto though I do not necessarily think that is the cause. B12 and peri menopause are higher up the list of suspects at the moment
