Today I had a McDonald’s meal . A 5 piece chicken select meal ( so with a standard portion of chips ) plus one and a half BBQ sauces . And a latte .

It maybe took me an extra 15 mins to finish the coffee after the meal .. so it’s 1 and 2 hours after finishing the latte

After one hour my blood glucose was 13.6

and 2 hours after it was 8.7

did that spike my blood badly ?

Thank you :)

Hi there, what was your reading before the meal? Without that info it's hard to say how much the meal spiked you by. Having said that the 13.6 is quite high in my opinion and the 8.7 is higher than I would like mine to be. x

Hi :)

Ny blood glucose ( at 12:46 pm, first reading of the day ) was 4.7

It’s worrying .. I’m still getting to grips with this .. it does seem to be around 8 of 9 2 hours after eating quite often

Download the mysugr app. Record your food and numbers in it. Test before you eat and 2 hours after the first bite. You will soon see which foods you can tolerate and which you can't.

I find high fat meals can spike my BG more than 2 hours after eating, it might be worth checking after more than 2 hours just to ensure you haven't had a delayed spike.

Problem your going to get on here is you’ll get a massive range of opinions. I’ve just started a pump & if I’m in range which is below 10mmol I’m more than happy. If I go upto 13/14 after a high carb/fat meal I won’t worry too much as long as it corrects itself within a couple hours. I uploaded the last 4 weeks worth of data to my DSN yesterday & the reply I got was ‘Wow, 86% in range over a 4 week period. I don’t recommend any changes’..

Now that 86% in range is probably usually at the higher end of the range scale, usually between 5-7 during the night when I’m asleep and I’d say 7-10 throughout the day between meals. As someone said above they wouldn’t be happy with a reading of 8.7, Personally I’d look at a reading of 8.7 and go hurrayyyy I’m in range I’ll check you again later.

It really comes down to how you personally feel about it, how your control has been lately etc. If your use to readings for 13/14 most of the time then getting down to 8.7 is fantastic. On the other hand if your control is pretty much perfect and hardly goes above say 7 then a reading of 8.7 might be classed as high.

Personally I would not test after
1 hour but I would not be happy with the 2hr level. I’d adjust my carb ratio to bring it closer to 7’s next time. I know I need dose extra for Macdonalds

We should not judge others on their diabetes management.
The explanation does not mention anything like number of carbs in the meal or when or what you dosed in insulin.
The chicken pieces are likely to be fatty which means the peak maybe later.
