Introduce Yourself: Answer Some Personal Questions

My Doctor told me to join this web site

I would not worry to much at this stage and trust your doctor, I have stage 2, which I think I may have had for over a year, but I have only been diagnosed by the doctor for about two weeks, so I am not far ahead of you in diagnosis.

I have noticed that on the first day of taking my tablet, my glucose went from 30 to 10 and I now manage to regulate albeit erratically between 5 and 8 sometimes more or less. Eating less but more often 6 times a day works for me, so generally grazing slowly through the day, I am at early stages so it will take a while to get to grips with all of this tooooo.

OK I say this because If I take the medicine my sugar level drops and if I forget my morning tablet, even a small breakfast can result in a glucose level of around 10 or over from about 5 before breakfast.

I am on Gliclozade, so I guess this is currently doing its job. If you feel your medicine is not making a change, then you must go to the doctor to check if you are type 1

I like you will probably be seeking many answers on this forum as we learn to control our exercise or dietry needs, I wish you good luck.

Don't panic, you are not alone here. I felt that way in 2005. There are many of us with experience to help you adjust. I have had my own miseries but I am here to help you. Are you insulin dependant? Are you on tablets. In all instances do not get complacent. Diabetes will hurt you regardless if its extent.

Can I quote Microsoft or Apple? on my FB Lol, glad you recovered and congrats on 4 stone loss

Regards Woody

Hi, I'm new to this app and I have managed my Type 1 diabetes for 55 years this month. My only noticeable complication has been erectile dysfunction which is not so terrible as it would be for a younger man. My greatest recommendation to all Type 1s is to take the Dafne course if you can. This old dog learned a few new tricks!
How do I send this?

Hi I am Joan had type 1 for24yrs take insulin find as I have turned the seventy mark it's a constant battle to keep b/s under 10 I expect it's because I am not as active anyone in my age group feel the same.

Hello,
I'm Jenny.

Mid 70s going on 16
Type 2 Diabolic , diagnosed 1990. Metformin, at first, then insulin as well and finally adding canalgiflozin in the last year.
I usually have good control , but started with stomach and digestion problems ,gradually getting worse. I was taking 3x850 mg tablets /day and my GP raised the question with my specialist... who sent him a quite snotty reply.
My specialist changed the metformin for Bolamyn SR 500mg, 2 capsules , twice a day . The results have been much better , No more explosions ,down below and the indigestion was reduced.
This is where it gets complicated :

Because my husband and I are much better in temperate climates with clean air, after working hard in grimy Leeds, with it's appalling winters, we now spend the worst part of the winter in the hills of The Algarve . My GP would only allow us 2 months advance supply of the Bolamyn and I have not been able to build up a stockpile to bring out here.

My Portuguese GP advises me that this particular medication has not yet been approved for prescribing in Portugal.

Can anyone advise me if it is possible to buy this , or something similar, over the counter, in a Spanish or Gibraltar Pharmacy.
I'm considering substituting one of the Bolamyns with a normal 500mg tablet, to stretch out the supplies.

Any advice would be most welcome .

Hi, my name is Leonie Cameron. I am a 64 year old woman from Adelaide, Australia and I was diagnosed with Type II diabetes approx 2 years ago.
I was travelling overseas to the USA and was feeling some tingling in the bottom of my feet. As I had previously been a
nurse I knew this was a sign of diabetes. However I was worried about my blood flow so went to the doctors to check prior to going overseas on that long, long flight.
I advised the doctor myself that I thought it might be diabetes but was advised to travel overseas and then go back to see him
when I returned.
I had a great holiday with no worries except my feet being sore when I walked too much.
When I returned I went to my doctor and was tested for diabetes. Yes I had type II and was immediately put onto Diaformin.
I had my referrals to the dietician, the podiatrist and the local gym for excercise.
I am not the best at eating properly but do try hard. I guess because of my age it seems not as urgent for me, however sometimes I feel I need to do better so I am looking at ways to improve my eating habits and I feel discussing it with others can sometimes help.
Thank you for allowing me to join up.

You are my hero. After 11 years I am so fed up. Show me how you do it.
