hi, i.m a 42 year old single male, who has had diabetes @ 3 years, ignored it, with feelin aworse. and worse. artist, love scuba diving,camping etc. now im at a lost. i have so many complications.
b/p,heart,pacrease,sweating at nite. and they cant get me balanced now nervetheropy, now i will try shots. so so worried. i live by the beach in cal. i work for a huge well known co.im so outgoing to help all. i hate only i got myself into this. i went from no pills to 10. the sweating they cant fix.

- Are you wealthy? Not financially, but I am alive and I have a wonderful wife and family, so yes, in that sense I am wealthy.
- Do you work? If so, as what? Yes, in I.T.

- What do you like most about yourself? Physically my eyes and hands, personality wise my integrity.
- What do you like least about yourself? Physically my belly, it needs to go (not that it's huge but, meh, diabetes) and personality wise, I hate my self doubt and the fact I take stuff like my diabetes personally.

OK, this may be a tad different to many others.... I was diagnosed Type 1 in 1962 and was initially under King's College, Hospital, Denmark Hill where I spent 2 weeks as an in-patient (many stories from that). Since then I grew up (in places), and became a teacher (it saved having to work for a living), completing 38 years of keeping youngsters (up to Oxbridge Uni age ad ability) entertained. Very active diver (aqualung type), gaining highest awards possible after fighting hard to keep diabetics allowed to dive (big efforts). But got through that..... and was used to visit overseas branches to teach others how to teach (tough life having 3 weeks all expenses paid trip to Bermuda during summer holidays, or others to e.g. Red Sea, Kenya or Arabian Sea but someone had to do it).

I gave up diving when realised neuropathy was evident - could be potential problem for diving. Had completed more than 6,500 dives by then......

Then started doing ambulance work with St John and then with 999 Ambulance Service - interesting times, was at Westminster Abbey for Diana's funeral...... more stories could be recounted of the 14 years doing that....

Went onto pump about 10 years ago, and although it has taken time, the outcome has been excellent, HbA1C went from more than 11.5 to less than 7.6 now. Which after 55 years is considered good......

I retired to France in 2012 and am now in the French system (different units but that's the only real difference), with easy access to chiropody, consultant level care and so on.

So, if anyone wants advice about the French system I would be happy to try to help..... we enjoy living in Southern France with a Border Collie to keep me moving. Hence my avatar of him when he was 6 months old (rescue puppy), he is now just over 2......

I was diagnosed just before my wedding over 20yrs ago (must of been the shock of getting married), I had a infection that attacked my pancreas, resulting in me being diabetic, I have struggled with it all my adult life, was put on the pump three years ago and it was the best thing to ever happen, I never realised just how I was on injections.
Worked in forestry virtually all my life but other complications took over so now fly a desk!

· No anger does not solve problems and usually ends up hurting you as much as anybody else, stay calm and in control.

· No pushed a paper clip through my ear in the 70’s to be a punk but not really got into body adornment

· No particular favourites anything with a good beat or message like the Who’s Won’t get fooled again.

· Yes, many childhood holidays and biker trips in my youth. Lived in a tent for 6 months in Scotland next to a loch as all the houses were rented out as holiday homes in summer. Plenty to rent in winter.

· Many times, maybe too many times! What a wonderful feeling.

· No or any of the metro man stuff not for me smelling nice or having soft skin.

· USA, Canada, France, Belgium and Germany Oh and Wales that’s a grand place.

· Salford

· No, but I am happy, money cannot buy you that.

· Part time computer consultant, helping people and businesses with their computers and I run some websites.

· Was very pleased to leave school at age 16 with 8 O’levels I had enough by then 4 years of being bullied and b*ggard by a right bunch of bstards who did not like me or the way I was. Did an apprenticeship with BT and learned electrical and electronic engineering and technology. Done a lot of years working with computers.

- What do you like least about yourself?

· I leave that for others to have an opinion on, I like to look in the mirror and smile back at the person I see.
