Hi and welcome. Maybe put this question under type 2 questions? Here everyone will advise you to test your BG yourself and change your diet to low carb. Two things that really helps you to take control yourself instead of relying on doctors advice. I'm pretty new myself, but there's really knowledgeable people in this forum who can advice you better than me. Good luckHi - recently diagnosed type 2. Been on metformin for a month. Just had first visit with surgerys practice nurse who is apparantly a diabetic expert. I found it odd that she didnt seem to be too bothered about my daily double vision episodes, lost sensation in two toes on my left foot, chronic night sweats and chronic muscle fatigue. She has just upped my metformin to 850 twice a day. She also advised against testing my blood sugar levels on a regular basis and said that I should only rely on their blood test every 3 months. Is this normal? No advice on diet or anything. So glad I found this place to ask questions and get answers, rather than a shrug of the shoulders. She did give me a card with details of a local group I can attend - like AA or some kind of addiction council clinic. I just want to know whether I should go somewhere else and pay to be tested privately etc and to see if there is any lasting damage being done to my nerves or eyesight. I would rather have sight and mobility than blind, imobile and a succesful lawsuit against the practice.
This thread will hopefully let us to get to know one another better and allow us to see which users we might share similarities with. I've listed a set of questions below that you can answer to tell us more about yourself. By no means do you have to answer all of them, and if you feel like adding further information, feel free.

New to the forum - although I have joined before a few years back. Can anybody direct me to weight loss posts. Diabetic Type 1 for 44 years, well controlled, no side effects or issues. I've put on stone and a half over three years and need, and want to lose by the end of August. Am very interested in Low Carb. Levemir 15 units per day (10 am 5 pm) and Novorapid with carb counting for meals. This is probably in the wrong place, if so, forgive me, and direct me to the right place, meant to add very good blood glucose control.

Welcome to the forum. I was on mixtard and it was a waste of time. Now on Novorapid and Lantus, what a relief!HI, I'm Naomi.
I'm 36 years old and have been diabetic since I was ten.
I use Lantas and novorapid and have done for about 12 years - so much better than two injections of human mixtard! Lol.
I have been following diabetes Co. uk for ages but have only just joined the forum today. Not really here for anything although I am intending on going on my first foreign holiday on the next year so have some concerns about that.
Welcome to the forum. Like you, I am the youngest of 5 siblings and the only diabetic. Breaks ya heart don't it!Hello my name is Annie and I have just been diagnosed as type 2 diabetic. I am 53 and the only diabetic in my family. I am so glad I found this forum .
