Hi. I'm karl
Like olive don't know how to get the template but I'm 60. Live in Peterborough,Cambs
Have 2 dogs (boxers) love most sport . Have 4 children and 5 grandchildren whom I love all very much. Been married 41 years to Janet.

I am newly diagnosed type 2 just a week ago. Have read loads about diabetes but an still confused about so many things.
I've lost quite a bit of weight before I was diagnosed and am not too phased about changing my diet ( always been happy to try new foods etc)
Since being diagnosed my symptoms have almost gone so ,maybe wrongly, thought that my BS level must have dropped ( it was 20 at diagnosis) However I did a self test tonight and it's still the same. So a bit confused and fed up

welcome Karl :) do measure you blood glucose every day, in that way you keep track of your progress , without that you´ll have a hard time knowing how to exectly lower your blood glucose to normal levels, which is to aim for if possible

Hi!
My name is Pauline. I'm a 65 years YOUNG carer for my husband. He's T1 Diabetic. But he has also developed Neuropathy. I thought I would join the forum to see other people's experiences of caring for a Diabetic. It ain't easy!
We live in Devon. But we are both from Cheshire originally. Where we live has lovely hillside/wooded views and we are 2 miles from the sea front. It's very posh here, and we don't fit in regarding affluence! but the peace, calm, beauty, birds, flowers all help hubby's illness. I do all the gardening. I'm aertistic, like creating, love knitting, make him his socks so I know they will be comfy, I used to bake and sell it, I've worked for charities. I'm a frustrated nurse!!
Oh yes, and I rarely conform, which is why I didn't use the template probably.
I get very, very tired. I suffer from depression and anxiety and I find it hard to control my weight. We are both pretty impatient with greed, so we watch what we eat together. However, lack of proper exercise has slightly pushed my weight up. I was told last year that I am two points below the start of T2 Diabetes and since I lost a cousin last November, I have been warned! My dearly loved cousin was a perfect T2 diabetic yet died from a heart attack.
When my hubby was diagnosed with neuropathy, I started a Facebook page called Diabetic Neuropathy and Diabetic health. I wasn't sure what I was doing but all I do is post information, usually off other Facebook sites, like Diabetes.co.uk, that I think may help people. It's my way of fighting. We did get invited to go to India for treatment but the cost would have been too great!!! I was determined to find, if not a cure, but some way of stopping hubby's illness and I am still convinced that although we can't repair the damage to his body, we can make his body stronger and healthier by using food as medicine. By eating healthily. I think a cure for Diabetes will come soon too. But it will come in several forms. My mantra is 'Eat well. Keep your body in good shape' That way, you'll still be fit and well when they cure you!!
Good job I didn't use the template after all! Best wishes.

Hi @john ag - sorry to hear you are not feeling well. I had to read your post a couple of times just to make sure I had read it right - you have lost 10 stones in a year!!! that is a phenomenal amount to lose. Have you stabilised now or are you still losing? Also are you on meds at all? Hope your diabetic team are keeping a close eye on you and doing all the necessary tests. Hopefully this is just a bit of a blip, if not I hope you get things sorted soon.

Hi Julie thanks for the prompt reply yes it was 10 stone lost in the year but obviously something is not right chucking increasing amounts of metformin and gliclacide down but a little blip from my doc who thought i was eating wrongly. My diet is better now than it was at the start we all learn as we go along.
Bowl of porrage in morning tuna salad for dinner and sensible evening meal.very rare eat bread or pastas keeping to a low carb diet. But as i have said bloods are not doing well anywhere between 14 to 18.so something is wrong, possible it may be the other problems affecting it fibromyalgia, arthritis and a couple of others having a go at me.So just awaiting an appointment now to see where i go from here.
Had to slightly increase the amount i eat as i was losing too much weight was down to 11 1/2 stone but now settled at just over 12.
Any ideas or help i would be grateful for.
Many thanks
John.

Hi @john ag, sorry to learn of your other issues aswell. It does seem from what you are saying that there may be an underlying reason for your higher blood sugars if you need to keep upping your meds and still getting rising numbers. Hopefully your diabetic team can sort it out for you - or refer you to an endo if they can't. Good luck and let us know how things go.

My name is: Burt Whyte

I am 61 years old.

I am currently living in the United States.

I reside in the city of Brooklyn, New York.

I am open-minded, dependable while loving the journey of life by giving Him thanks for each day and asking for guidance and blessings to be the best person I can be!

I am a huge sports fan with cricket, football (soccer), and track & field my main emphasis. I do not play anymore but I maintain walking daily to aid with my diabetes (type 2).

I try to limit my episode of anger because of the need to manage and maintain stress management (hypertension).

No tattoos or piercings.

My favorite genre is reggae ( Jamaican descent).

Thus, my favorite flag is the Jamaican.

I am not wealthy from a financial standpoint. However, I consider myself very wealthy because of the love of family and friends.

Due to physical limitations, I do not work for anyone. However, I am currently working on earning an income through Internet Marketing(IM). Moving forward with extreme caution. It's a scam-fest out there! Don't believe in quick schemes. Nothing good comes easy!

I adore my open-mindedness. When you are not open-minded in anything. I believe this limit the possibilities. The journey of life and learning requires open-mindedness to allow us to be the best we can be and receive the best of our fellow humans. It has been said, 'learning is a journey, not a destination'. We should never be afraid to learn from anyone. We were all created as equals. One can be better off or more educated than another. However, this will never make them 'better than' period!

I have a tendency to be very reserved most of the time and sometimes may not speak up when I should or grasp what be said until my mind hits the recall button! Although, sometimes it does not seem to make sense to raise my BP.

That's all for now about me! I would like to extend successful wishes to everyone on their journey going forward. My personal motto is to do the best I can one-day-at-time. Some days I may stumble but always get back up and move forward. Looking forward to talking with you all! Have a blessed day everyone. Eat healthily, do your exercises (if you can), and take your meds!

Regards,

Burt,

Hi all,

My name is Alexander, and I was diagnosed at the age of 21 with type 1 diabetes in February 2015 after suffering with acute DKA.

Upon receiving my diagnosis in A&E, I remarked to the doctor attending to me, "so I'm not totally fu**ed, then?", to which he replied, smiling warmly, "no, you're not totally fu**ed." I extend to you all these words of longevity and the best of health.

I have just finished my MA at the University of Cambridge, and I'm navigating the post-studies path.

A.

Hi everyone. I've been lurking for a while now and have absorbed some good ideas, a lot more than the professional s have done. Been wanting to join on here for some time but don't know what to say but here goes.
I'm 64 and female, diagnosed T2 10 years ago and use insulin 1 injection nightly, take gliclazide 160mg twice a day.
I'm terrible even now at controlling my glucose levels, so weak willed. I still work and have my husband and 13 yo grandson living with us since my daughter died 5 years ago, I know I'm still depressed and take 20mg of citralopram everything night too.
