Introduce Yourself: Answer Some Personal Questions

Hi all. I'm a prediabetes kind of guy, which is a real mystery as I'm not overweight - my doc couldn't believe it! I've got until 8th August to turn it around as that's when I have my 'find out' appointment. I've lost 3/4 stone in an attempt to get rid, which I'm very pleased with as I had no professional help whatsoever. Anyway, here's my answers to the questions.

I'm new, obviously. I don't see a new post box, just a reply box so I may be responding to someone's post. Kinda feels like playing roulette. My response may be totally unrelated to the person's post, hahaha.

Anyway, if this makes a new post, great. If not, sorry I barged into your intro, looking like a fool.

I'm from the U.S.
I live 300 yards from the Des Moines river, surrounded by corn, beans, and forest. The nearest Wal-Mart is a 30 mile drive.
My uncle lost his legs from diabetes and died around 45. Both of my grandmothers had it and one died from it.
I've been living on a diet of mostly sugar for the last year and my health changed. Seven days ago I cut all added sugar out of my diet and lost six pounds so far.
I love dogs (I'm a dog groomer) and insects. Growing flowers and rare fruit is a hobby. I collect beautiful old things. I spend most of my time with my family.

Welcome to the forum @Markward123. I hope it goes well with the metformin. Keep the diet, get regular exercise and ensure you keep hydrated. Above all, keep in regular contact with your gp. This is not an easy transition, but make it easier on yourself by staying on the program. This is your life, take control and be healthy.

Hi, my name is Sheri & I have cfrd (cystic fibrosis diabetes) which is kind of a mixture of type 1 & type 2. It means I can or must eat a very high calorie diet to try & maintain a healthy weight. I am also currently on the lung transplant list, have osteoporosis, arthritis.
My hba1c was 62 at last clinic, up from a good 52. My sugars lately are out of control, so hoping to get a new view on how to manage my blood sugars.
I currently take novarapid & usually inject between 3-6units per meal as I am or was sensitive to insulin. Not on any long acting.
I hope to gain some more knowledge from you guys as I'm not really clued up on diabetes even though I've had it for the last 5 yes .

Hi I'm mark I've been a T 1 diabetic since 1980. Have probably been through most things during the 37 years I have had diabetes. And to be honest nothing shocks me now. I lost my leg below the knee in 2014 . My own fault I knew the rules but didn't play by them . But in recent times have decide to " screw the nut and things are good. I still live life to the full , and nothing gets me down . One thing I will say is there are a lot of opinions about diabetes out there, and it can be a very daunting prospect for those newly diagnosed . However it shouldn't stop you achieving anything you want to. Technology is such these days that almost anything is possible. The only piece of advice I will give is take your blood sugar regularly , it is the only way you can start to control your diabetes ,. Nice to meet you all look forward to some good convos and maybe a good laugh along the way
