Introduce Yourself: Answer Some Personal Questions

Hi all.
I have been type 1 for 48 years. Still working and ok. I have one question to see if anyone knows. Blood testing alarm for night time when sleeping.
Some new test system s where you put the receiver in arm and log it on iPhone cool but why have they not app that and make the alarm go off when your asleep. Easy if some tech company could be bothered. I bet everyone would use it. Hypo at sleep time Not Fun. Regards. Alan.

I'm Terry, a '53 years young', single, female and a newly diagnosed Type 2 diabetic. I've known it was coming for a while - pregnancy diabetes with my son (22) and never really lost the weight I gained while pregnant. I also have a daughter of 11, a dog and 6 ferrets! I have no tattoos and only my ears pierced. I'm originally from London but have lived 'up North' for the last 14 years, mainly in Leeds.

I work with lots of health professionals, mainly pharmacists and GPs, and they're all nagging me to sort myself out. My HbA1c was 54 when I was diagnosed (had been 48 for a while) but lost a bit of weight and got it down to 45. Put most, if not all, of the weight back on and my fasting blood sugars have gone back up. I need to sort myself out. I do have one bonus- my dog needs to lose weight as well so I'm having to walk him little and often which will do me good

@Fifi0106 , welcome to the Forum, however you might get a better response to your questions by writing your own post in a different section, rather than just a comment here in the introductions thread. May I suggest the ‘Ask a Question’ or ‘Type 2’ subforums.

Not a lot, luckily I don't have all 5 at once; the twins live in Hertfordshire but the other 3 are fairly local
I'm trying to be good with eating just now as my blood sugar was up and I've been advised by the nurse to cut down on carbs
By "carbs" is that the same as starch, like corn or potatoes? I always consider them related to sugar.
Since my cancer was reduced to hardly noticeable anymore, I started eating cheese again, just to see it if returns.

My name is Brenda,
Age 69
Married
1 child grown up
Born in Manchester
Moved to South Australia in 1966
I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes around 20 years ago, i have struggled with keeping my sugar levels down over the 20 years, came upon a low carb method some 8 years ago. The information in Australia is very slow to come through, and i have kept them within reasonable limits ever since, i have tried to come off tablets as soon as i cut them down up go the sugar levels. My goal is to keep off insulin for as long as i can.
The cause of my original diagnoses concluded that i had glandular feaver 20 years earlier this compromised my immune system.
I read a lot about food, diabetes, and nutrition, i am not neurotic about it i was given some advice by a friendly nurse, she advised me the best thing i can do for my diabetes is to keep my levels at a good level, to do this i should monitor the blood, by taking a reading before a meal, then 2 hours after, this will indicate how effective the meal has been. (today they call this eating by the meter), i have done this eversince.
Good luck to you all it is long journey ahead of us.
Brenda
