I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes when i was 19, I was prescribed metformin never actually took it regular and now i am on victoza and metformin. ​

Hi. My name is Kim. I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes in 1983 but it was too late to do anything as my sone was born a week later! Again in 1985, treated with diet from 20 weeks, then again in 1988 and had insulin from12 weeks. Came back with a vengeance in 1992, and have been on insulin ever since. Added in Metfromin and sitagliptin over the last 2 years.

Keep getting error 8 on my meter this is the 2nd one.. I get them free from my nurse but come on supposed to be a good make
 
Hi all,

I was diagnosed diabetic over 10 years ago and never really been managing it well, first by diet, then tablets for about the last three years. Although I was seeing the GP diabetic nurse all through this time. A couple of weeks ago I was taken as an emergency admittance into A&E by ambulance as I had diarrhoea for over 7 weeks and slowly not eating much until almost nothing at all over that time, still taking my diabetic tablets. I had become more and more sleepy, no energy at all to do anything even watch TV and on the day of admittance I had began vomiting.

It turns out I seem to have a bowel problem which is still under investigation but I had gone into ketoacidosis with acute kidney injury. They threw everything at me in A&E and within 4 hours I had been transferred to ICU, I was there for 2 days and then a further 6 days on a ward. Quite scary, and now I am on insulin Novarapid 3 x daily and Lantus 1 x daily.

So now, I am slowly getting to grips with administering insulin and the diet (low carb) willl come next.

I am a almost 57 year old lady, married with two grown up children and a granddaughter - plus a dog

I live in the Wigan/Warrington area, North West England.

I am an administrator but haven't been in work for over 7 weeks!

I have an appointment with the hospital diabetic team in a couple of weeks and will have questions to put to them regarding my diabetic status - am I type 1 or Type 2 after this incident, what status is my pancreas/kidneys etc?

I have lurked around this site for some time but, of course, paid it much more attention over the last week. It looks very supportive and very informative and I look forward to finding out more over time.

Hi, I was diagnosed in 2015 with T2 diabetes. Not a huge shock as two of my siblings, my father and a grandmother were and are diabetic also. Recent awful blood results and hypoglycaemia prompted me to seek inspiration and support from this forum and I am so glad I did . I have been glued to it for a few days now and have learned so much.

For the missing bits:

- Diagnosed 2001 with Type I in my early 30s. 18 years later everything is still working, except for a touch of retinopathy. My biggest challenge more recently has been motivation.
- I have just had a nasty DKA episode after a chest infection which wouldn't go away, and was hospitalised for over a week in January. It was quite scary.
- That has lead me to reboot the diabetes management and doing a switch to more careful low-carbing.
- I have joined the forum to learn some more, swap recipes, keeping motivated etc.
- Current A1c is 7.9% (=59), with the aim of going sub-7 and staying complication-free. During the chest infection etc it was 9.4% (=74).
- I am redoing a DAFNE-like course this month. I did it back in 2005, and this is revision + reboot.

I am trying to get to grips with the Carbs and Cals App on Android, but it seems a little limited vs the Apple version, and I am concerned that support seems to be unavailable.
