Introduce Yourself: Answer Some Personal Questions

Hi my name is Garry i'm from Newcastle ( aye a Geordie lol ) i was diagnosed yesterday with T2 by my doctor who took all of 5 mins Seen this site so decided to join so i could get some advice off people who are willing to help a newbie out cos i ain't got a clue what I'm supposed to do in regards to my diabetes and eating habits until i see diet nurse on Tuesday.Thanks in advance peeps
 
Hi, My name is Tom, I have type 2 diabetes and have had this condition for about four years. I control my sugar levels using daily medication (tablets), although not doing a very good job of it.
prior to being diagnosed I was an active runner for many years, running in competitive distance races such as marathons and 10k's. Since giving up running about 10 years ago i put on about 4 stone in weight and developed this condition.
I am 59 years old and although overweight (30ish BMI) I think I am otherwise quite healthy. I would like to find the energy to get back into running, but as I am now 4 stone overweight I find it difficult to work my way up to a distance and duration that will allow me to reach the stage where the endorphin effect kicks in, which made my running so enjoyable in the past.
If anyone has any ideas or comments regarding getting back into a healthy and active lifestyle I would love to hear them.

Hi all my name is cheryl and I am 60 years old and I just found out I have type 2 diabetes. The doctor has put me on metformin and while I feel better from all the thirst etc., I am experiencing diarheoa and feeling sick. Will this pass? I live in south wales, in a place called penarth.

Hi Cheryl. Welcome to the forum The best would be to put the question in type 2 section and Im sure you will get lots of answers . Your post may get lost in here and not many people will see it. There are many people on this forum with great knowledge of diabetes and you will receive lots of support. Im type 1 and I dont really know how type2 affects people. All the best

Hello all you great information givers......... another new diabetic for your forum; I have been a Coeliac for over 30
years - so not the youngest forum user! and now have to adjust my food input yet again to cope with diabetes as well.
Help please - any assistance would be really useful, I thought I was doing ok having just had a new hip & initiated into diabetes,
but now been hit with cystitis as well, which I read is fairly normal with metformin; as yet my gp surgery has not had other
Coeliacs in their practice, let alone a coeliac/diabetic type 2 !
I'm another of the people told ' youre an intelligent person, so this will be easy to adapt your diet a bit more - heres the
kit', see you ?????? when - no appointment given, so I presume when my tablets are finished or the cystitus gets worse ??

Sorry this is a miserable start to my forum life - it will get better :crazy:

Male 65, Living in Germany, retired, type 2 diabetis (rife in the Family!)

I had bronchitis the last 3 weeks, 2 x antibiotic (finished thank God!) but now having a problem, my test was 478 a couple of hours ago, my last (a few minutes) the tester just said Hi! OK, I know it was not saying Hallo! at tthe moment trying to stay awake and active and drinking water,,,,, Yuk! yes I feel 'woozy' no I am not dead yet,,,,,,,,,,,,,
I am pretty sure I have HHS whatever
trouble is,,,, here in Germany, because I am on Tablets, the Dr. is only allowed to prescribe 50 tests in 90 days (1 cartridge) that is all that is allowed, so I cannot test regularly, a lot is guess work, no way around that as I am on a tiny pension (from the UK about half what most Germans recieve(600€ per month - works pension) plus diabetics here do have to pay for all medication anyway, although because of my small pension I do get a card after the first 60€ per year is paid (I have to apply each year for it) also no Eye care here (no nothing!) and my sight is definitly getting worse!
and no, I do not want to come back 'Home' I like my old Farmhouse here in a tiny village 8)
is there any way of getting test cassettes from the UK? it might help
 
:wave: hello am a new member of this association and i aged 36; my name is Nooosrat and one of the main aim y i join this asso is may be i badly need support to control my diabetes. i have got that illness during pregnancy of my second child and i am morally down with this illness. i am the sole one with it in my family and i know all the things n care to take in theory but my blood sugar keeps on shooting. sometimes i am so scared that i do not eat n got prob of gastrics. i am desperately trying to count the no of carbs in my food meal but with less success! i am on lantus 30 and novorapid 30 ml but i can not control it. i need HELP AND SUPPORT. just thinking of a visit to a doctor make me nervous and i know my bp rise up! so please no doctor. if i can get some friends for counselling HOW MUCH to eat i will be very grateful. i am a great fan of sweet things but i eat moderately but i want to STOP it. at home i got no support no guide so please HELP ME OUT i dont want to die with that illness. please HELP :roll:
 

HI DEAR this is noosrat and yes i was on that medecine too and facing the same problems vomits, nausea all day long it will pass yes but depending on your body it may take days or even months; as for me i simply change it bcos i could not face that all day long ! so talk to your Doctor
