I live in Somerset and have a lovely cat called Rosie - she is 10 years old. Unfortunately, I was widowed very young at the age of 32 - my husband was 34 when he died. He was my "soul mate". It is the best thing in life being happily married to the right man and quite the saddest thing when you lose them far too early.

I love animals and the countryside. I try never to harm anything - ie I pick up spiders in a duster and put them outside and even money spiders or other small insects I rescue I them and put them outside.

I love cooking and unfortunately enjoy eating! I have a great interest in homeopathy and have treated myself on many occasions with same and have therefore avoid painful knee surgery, was able to cancel my operation for carpal tunnel symdrome and have avoided a hip operation the doctor said I needed. I am not qualified medically but have studied homeopathy for many years now and it really does work. Sadly, the NHS has turned its back on homeopathy - although many qualified doctors still offer it privately. My politics are middle of the road, I have voted conservative and I have also voted labour. I support the underdog in life but do not despise the wealthy just because they are well off. I admire people who are kind and contribute to society in general.

I enjoy melodic music with words they one can understand. I love 60's music etc.

Hi everyone, I am Jean from Alberta, Canada. I had gestational diabetes when carrying my son 17 years ago then become pre-diabetes 5 years later. I almost went blind but saved by a young optometrist who discovered my issues and then by the most wonderful Vitreoretinal surgeon Dr. Kherani.

Other than my vision issues, I have been mostly fine, self managed by watching what I eat, how I feel and by occasional finger checks. I was on a roughly low carb, high fat diet for the past five years then three weeks ago did a 360 and changed to whole food plant based diet. The change has given me more energy to workout. The main reason for the change is to lose weight and most importantly to lower visceral fat and cholesterol level. I found so many helpful info from this forum during my recent transition and also have so many questions to ask you guys. So here I am.

BTW, I just brought the Libre and started using it yesterday. Unfortunately the product sold in Canada is encrypted so have to jump through more hoops to get the data loaded into Diabetes:M.
 
Hi my name is Carol
I've had diabetes Type 1 for 29 years. A year ago I was put on a pump because my blood sugars were up and down and I couldn't control them. The pump is a great thing for me. I follow a low carb diet
but still found my diabetes out of control untill my health care specialist at the hospital lowered my basal rate things are fantastic for me now as my sugar checks are back to normal feeling fantastic now. I am not over weight and never have been.

My name is Simon i am 56 living on the Isle Of Wight. I have only recently been diagnosed with type 2 and fully aware that i have a lot to learn
 
 
Good Morning Folks.

My names Rob, and I live in Hoddesdon in Hertfordshire in the UK. I'm a 51-year old male who is recovering from an accident where I had the top of my right foot ripped off by a careless employee dropping a tail-lift from an articulated 48-tonne vehicle on my foot!

That happened in December 2017, so because of the pain and inactivity due to the tissue regrowing, I was unable to walk or exercise for some time. Thankfully though I've made great strides (forgive the pun) & I'm now very nearly able to say I've eliminated my walking with a pronounced limp! Now you might not even notice, but I know it's there lurking in the background!

I found I had type 2 diabetes a couple of months ago with a blood sugar of 101m/mol (8th May 2019) and reduced it to 59m/mol (5th August) in three months and I'm on an express journey to reduce my insulin resistance to healthy levels as soon as is possible. As soon as the levels are within normal levels, then I'll sightly change my regime by adding weight into a backpack, to build muscle by weight resistance training, similar to what the military does, but at a level catered to peoples weight, fitness and general health.

I've changed my diet dramatically (virtually vegan now) & I'm using intermittent fasting to improve my insulin sensitivity and I'd like to share my experience to help those who have slow progress or have no idea where to start.

I'm the doctors ideal patient, in that I can do the changes that are required and need no motivation from them to do so, but what I've learned medically in the last few years I may as well have studied for a degree.

Anyone might think I was keen to get rid of my insulin resistance or something!!

Hello Matt! Sorry to hear about the diagnosis but I am glad you are getting the care you need! Welcome to the forum! I am a newbie myself lol, I just joined this morning! I live in the States and I joined because my 14 year old son was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes a few months ago. Sending you lots of positive vibes and best wishes!! I know there are good days and bad days but I hope your good days are more than the bad ones! I hope you will figure out whatever works best for you and I pray you will find ways to manage this effectively and live your very best life!! Again, WELCOME!! Best wishes to you!!
 
Hi, my name is Ian

Was diagnosed as type 2 diabetes back in March. Had a blood reading of 95.

In May it was down to 70

August it is 53.

I am taking 4 metformin 500mg twice a day

And 1 empagliflozin 10mg.

I am 45 years old. 6' 3" and currently 83kg.

I am hoping I wont be on the medication forever. Ive completely altered my Diet.
