Introduce Yourself: Answer Some Personal Questions

I was eventually told Tuesday 28th after some confusion that I have type 2 diabetes. To say this is a shock is a bit of an understatement and I have a million questions. I’ve started taking the tablets and hopefully I will start to feel better in time. I will have to look at this as a chance to improve my overall lifestyle and become a fitter more active person. However I am a chocoholic so I know I’m going to find it difficult but with perseverance I’m sure I’ll get though

I have lived with type 2 for the last 26 years. Even with a lot of experience i still have issues controlling my blood glucose

I'm sorry your message got lost in the shuffle, when people have questions they're usually better off just starting their own thread. I'm sorry you went through all that and then were left to your own devices. https://josekalsbeek.blogspot.com/2019/11/the-nutritional-thingy.html might help you get a grip on this condition, and this place is pretty good when it comes to giving answers to those seeking them.... If we don't miss them entirely.

You will feel better eventually. Honest.

Hi. I'm Andy and I was diagnosed with type 2 about 5 weeks ago. It came as a bit of a shock - I'd just been taken into hospital in the middle of the night with chest pains, which turned out to be a heart attack, and after doing a blood glucose test (19 mmol/l) the doctor asked how long I'd been diabetic and whether I use insulin. HbA1C came back as 74 (and increased to 84 when retested a week later). At that point I knew nothing about diabetes, other than a very vague recollection of reading somewhere that type two can potentially be reversed with diet and lifestyle changes, so that's now the plan...

Since then I've bought a Contour Next One meter and am spending a fortune on test strips, have read Michael Mosely's 8 Week Blood Sugar Diet book, spent hours flicking through the forums on here and other sites, started trying to change my diet towards LCHF and have lost about 5kg.

I'm not big on sharing personal details, so below is a somewhat abbreviated list of the usual questions and answers:

Hey all. New member. I'm Paul, 43 with type 2 diabetes from UK

About to start radiotherapy so starting to use a monitor to check blood sugar. Freaking out a bit as it was really high even though I exercise and eat well (usually lol)
