Only five? Bowie, Prince, Coldplay (I know, I know) the Pogues, The Jam
- What would you say your favourite music genre is? Pop but played in a Jazz band many, many years ago & classically trained

- Ever gone camping? Of course - only with a duvet & pillows though!
- Ever been in love? A number of times. Long married old lady now.
- Ever used fake tan? Yes - when I was dancing

- Favourite city? New York which is also my least favourite city! Oxford if it wasn’t for the traffic getting in/out. Most Italian cities

Hello everyone,

I’m Jan

I live in the East Midlands and originally from Northern Ireland.

I am married with 2 grown step sons and my husband is also type 2 diagnosed for almost 20yrs (before I met him).
We have 2 greyhounds (the breed is known as 30mph couch potatoes ) - a boy called Flyer and a girl called Ora, they bring us such joy each day.

Diagnosed Type 2 in 2021 and realised I had been struggling with brain fog when it was finally lifted as my diabetes came under control.

I have semaglutide 0.5mg injection once a week and was doing ok until I ended up on 2 courses of steroids due to chest infection and asthma flaring. It’s taken me about a month to regain control on the diabetes front.

During that time I read more and realised I needed to move down the path of low carb eating. Since gradually implementing it I have started to feel better overall.

Looking forward to learning from you all and getting to know you.

I am Sam. I live in the North West and have just been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. I have eaten low-carb in the past but comfort-ate during lockdown. I am concerned about the stigma surrounding being a healthcare professional with type 2 diabetes so haven't told anyone yet except for my partner. I am almost too scared to eat at the moment! I am anxious whenever I am the patient rather than the professional as I feel so out of control of the situation so I shall struggle with appointments.

I look forward to sharing my journey with some non-judgmental folk who are walking the same path.
 
Welcome! It’s so important to have judgement free support. This place is judgement free. I am fortunate that my health care providers are that way too. The trust and confidence that I have in them is invaluable. I hope you will find that.
 
Just after my T2 diagnosis, I had a heart scan. The lovely technician shared with me that he was T2 as well. It was a real help to find that he was leading a normal life and holding down a serious job as well as managing his diabetes. People won't criticise you if they have a brain in their heads - the right kind of people will be strengthened and comforted to hear it. It's daunting when first diagnosed - it's easy to think that you are the only person who is going through this (especially with a heart problem as well) but people like you are an inspiration. We are not a disease - we are us.

Thank you. I haven't met the specialist nurse at my practice yet. Here's hoping she won't lecture me about how wrong low carb is!

Hi there Kris here,
I'm a medically induced diabetic, I have no pancreas. This happened in May 2020 cos of the big C
I'm non religious but I di believe there is something for us after this life, I'm more spiritual than spiritualist.
I exercise by walking my dog at least twice a day for around 10 miles
I live in the Yorkshire Dales in the UK so it's a lovely area to walk in.
I'm also a keen motorbiker and have been for most of my life, I'm fairly well covered in tattoos too.
I'm almost an OAP but I won't let that stop me, growing old is mandatory, growing up isn't

Hi My Name is Andy, Im 59 and just last week been diagnosed with type 2, Im an HGV driver and have been married for 34 years and have 1 daughter aged 12, I had a quadruple heart bypass in 2009 and am doing what I can to control this but am only on week one. Im not a talker but have a good wife who knows just what Im thinking and feeling so she is a massive help.

I try to be as positive and happy as I can be even on the days when I'm not feeling good because I don't want others to feel the sadness I do sometimes

Probably my weight but it's one of those things where I don't overly hate it and can live with my weight how it is, it'd be nice to get it down but I wouldn't be super unhappy if I didn't
