Hi everyone, hope you are all well. It is the first time that I have registered and joined the community.

My name is Ajit (AJ for short), 41yrs old male from Nottingham UK. I was diagnosed with T2 in November 2021, however the Metformin tablets were not reducing my BG levels. In March 2022, I was officially diagnosed with T1 and have been using Insulin ever since. I am taking Levemir (morning and night) and NovoRapid (x3 times a day).

I have to be honest and say that my life was changed totally since March 2022. It was such a big shock that it really effected my mental and physical health. In addition, I have had Cervical Spine surgery in 2018, and since then suffer from Disc degenerative disease in my neck, but was also told after a MRI scan last year that my Lumber discs are in bad shape. At present I suffer daily with sever neurological pain from my neck, to my arms, lower spine and waist, and now its going down my legs and feet. I am also taking Duloxeitine 120mg and Rosuvastatin 10mg.

I live with my wife, x2 daughters 12yrs and 2 yrs, and also my elderly parents whom I look after. I was working previously when I was diagnosed but stopped in May 2023, as I was not able to focus due to the severe pain.

Joining a community like this will help me get through this as by talking to others I know that sharing each others experiences we can move forward together.

Well now, that's hard to say. I used to, but my furry fellow, Magnus, died a few years ago. But around that time, we moved house and the new place came with two cats. One feral and one stray. The feral was badly injured and near death, so we started feeding him. The stray sometimes came around for snacks, too. The feral died a few days ago, but the stray is still hanging around, so I offer her food, butb she's not all that interested. Do I have a cat? I don't know.

I have never been sporty, but I love a good walk.

I used to love it! I haven't had the opportunity in decades, though. I expect that these old bones would find it less enchanting than they ponce did.

Many times.

Nope. Squeaking by on a disability pension. Then again, I have everything I have ever needed or wanted, I have a wonderful family and time to pursue my interests, so perhaps I am.

Im Helen and started taking Metformin on Monday had a chat with nurse on Tuesday advised to avoid white (bread, pasta etc), no handouts to read. Have to say I am extremely confused trying to sort all this out in my head, needless to say since I have been diagnosed with Class 2 all I have yearned for is sweets, salt and chips. I think I have a long way to go trying to get into a routine of 3 meals a day is hard when you have no appetite. Hopefully im in the right company now. Here's some info about me:

Hi Helen.
Be patient and you will soon be living a (near) normal life.
Don't disregard sweets as they do come in very handy if you start getting hypo symptoms. Jelly Babies seem to be the best.

It's always good to double check what type of diabetes someone has, and what medication they are on.
In this case, you are on insulin so you do need something sweet if you have a hypo. But Helen is on metformin only, so no risk of hypos.

I think I have a long way to go trying to get into a routine of 3 meals a day is hard when you have no appetite.

@howget , there is no need to eat 3 meals a day at all, and even less reason to eat when you have no appetite, unless you're underweight.
Many of our members only eat two meals a day, or even one to help them with their diabetes.

Greetings to all! Hi I’m stevee, I am a retired musician composer. I’m type two diabetic of around 15 yrs diagnosed. I thought I was already a signed up member to this site. But perhaps not.
My news is that today I started a new insulin routine with new combination of basal insulin injection once each morning, and fast acting insulin injections ten mins before each meal.
I can’t report how it’s going yet as this is my first day. But I am interested in what others have to say about this type of treatment. Before this I was using Humulin twice a day until BG spikes became unmanageable, and Hypos were sometimes occuring. Im hoping this new combined medication improves the situation. Anybody have a similar story? I would appreciate your feedback. Thanks.

Hi Steve,
Similar story here. Type 2 for years and was originally on just Metformin and Gliclazide. Following a hospital admission (BG 32mmols) I progressed to Humulin in the morning and Metformin morning and evening. Then progressed to Humulin twice a day And Metformin. Now at the point where they are saying I may need to have the pre meal injections! My levels always shoot up after eating.
