Hi, I'm Robert Campbell, I'm 59 and have been diagnosed with Steroid Induced Type 2 diabetes. I've only been diagnosed for a year using the HBA1C 120 day blood checks. Originally from Scotland, I have lived in England for more than 2/3rds of my life - I currently live near Brighton, Sussex. I am a commited Christian (Methodist) but with one illness/disability heaped on me I can't join friends in Church to sing how happy I am. To put you in the picture, I have had cancer 3 times, Epilepsy, Arachnoiditis (which has put me in a wheelchair), Rheumatoid Arthritis and now Diabetes along with several other lifetime medical problems! I'm not a happy bunny!
I'm an argumentative old sod but I have a positive and caring outlook on life. I'm no longer working due to the extreme fatigue caused by my disabilities but when I worked, the last 15 years to 2005 saw me working in the Charitable Sector helping other people find employment, engaging with employers to create a positive attitude to employing disabled people and then helping employers and services understand and follow the Disability Discrimination Act.
So, that's me in brief. The reason I've joined this Forum is to seek empathy with fellow diabetics. I want to pick up tips on managing this blasted condition and to see if there are others who have 'Steroid Induced' diabetes. I want to know what pitfalls could lie ahead and perhaps find out how to avoid them. In short, I'm on a quest to preserve my sanity.
