Hello there folks. My name is Kirsty. I come from Leicester in the uk. I am almost 40 (on Thursday) I was diagnosed type 2 last September. I am a nutcase with 3 kids a hubby and 3 cats, all of them beautiful. I like reading. I started out on metformin like most people but now have been changed to Gliclazide. I have had my head in the sand about this diagnosis but now want to find out more and look after myself better. I hope to meet some new friends (if I've not bored you all) and learn new stuff. Hi, my name is Maureen. I am 69 years old and have just in the last month been diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes. At present I am not on any medication just dietary. My concern is that I only have my readings when I visit the Diabetes Nurse. this means when I am feeling yuk I have no way of knowing whether my levels are up or down....which means I don't quite know how to manage things. I am hoping that on my return on Tuesday she will give me more information. I start a Spotlight on Diabetes Clinic in September and am booked for Eye Screening next month. We wondered if it would be beneficial to have my own 'meter for checking levels. Are they available on NHS or if I buy one what would you suggest would be the best. I feel very isolated at the moment as I haven't seen my nurse for nearly a month and I am not sure how I am doing. I also get headaches. I have to say I find it all a bit confusing :? but I really don't want to be a nusience to the nurse. That's if I can ever get past the receptionist to have a word with the nurse. :roll:

Hi I'm Pam, and have just been newly diagnosed with Type 2. My first reading was 102mmol wow, and I am slowly coming down. 62mmol now. Interestingly my eldest sister has just been diagnosed. The interesting thing is how her diabeties is being treated and mine. She has been given a blood testing kit with strips, but my doctors refuse to give me one.
On a personal level I am 60 years old, married with two girls, I still work full time and enjoy art, power walking, swimming and socialising.

- What do you like most about yourself? i am very creative, relaxed, alternative thinker, nearly always see the positive side or the funny side, very good at finding solutions, quick on the uptake in most situations, not afraid to step in or up to the plate in sticky situations or emergcies, reliable and loyal.
- What do you like least about yourself? sometimes my voice is too loud, but thats years of having to shout at yob and builders LOL i probably swear too much. but i am getting both under control.
 
Name: Nathanael van Wyk. Age: 51. Type 1 (insulin dependant) Live in South Africa on the North coast, little town called Stanger. Not religious, just in love with Jesus. A musician (piano, guitar) who doesn't like sport. Consider myself a fun-loving, carefree person. Love being around people, the more different the better. Love the outdoors. Love animals. Love facing challenges. Prone to depression (but I make sure I'm not in company when it strikes). Definitely only started after my diagnosis (1995).

My 15 year old daughter has just been diagnosed with type 1....5-6 weeks after glandular fever was first suspected....Long story!!

I'm not going to answer many of the questions....maybe if my daughter joins, she will!
We live in London, have a menagerie of rabbits, hamsters and guinea pigs & we're a Mac family, all 4 of us having our own iMac or MacBooks and there's a couple of iPads in the house not to mention various generations of iPods! No iPhones though :crazy:

So glad to have found this forum and I'm hoping I'll find lots of useful info to help my daughter keep herself well...she's also autistic and mildly learning disabled so she's an extra special girl
