Greetings folks,

I just thought I'd introduce myself. I'm 46 and have just been informed I am prediabetic, which I know nothing about, hence why I joined. I thought I'd join these forums so people can provide tips and educate me and the rules.

Welcome to the forums. What sort of diet do you follow? I'm type 1 and so probably not much help but others will answer soon with their experience. Many type 2s and pre-diabetics have gone into remission on the low-carb diet.

Hi John and welcome.

Prediabetes isn't a disease as such, but the rise in your HbA1c result (did they tell you about that?) indicates that your system is probably not coping with carbohydrates in your food as well as it should. Left to itself this inability is likely to get steadily worse, and could lead to continued rise in your blood glucose, which could in itself lead to some symptoms best avoided. Ultimately you would be formally diagnosed as diabetic.

The good news is that it is relatively simple to make some dietvchanges that will get you back where you should be. Some willpower is required but if you're here, you've probably seriously looking to do something about it.

I would strongly advise forgetting everything you think you know about "healthy" eating - what the media and friends and family all know you "should" eat. Other than that, read around on this forum - try the "Success Stories" bit - and please don't be afraid to ask questions.

Welcome on board, you should think yourself very lucky. Prediabetes is the advanced warning that diabetes IS on it's way IF you don't do something about it.
It should be relatively simple to tweak your diet, and head it off. If you can give us an idea of what you normally eat, we can make suggestions as to how to improve the situation. (HINT what you believe is healthy, probably isn't with sugar dis-regulation issues). But don't worry, between us all here we have a wealth of learned knowledge. Learned by experience of living with diabetes.
