Whelks,winkles... All crustaceous seafood except prawns. Can't do crab.lobster or scallops.
Don't like the way they are killed and cooked. Save our Scallops. SOS !!!
Also HATE evaporated milk.
Newly diagnosed Type 2 and just eaten lunch which was half a tin of mixed Taco beans from Tescos and the label said "Per half tin contains 160kj, Protein 10.5g, 0.8g fat, carbohydrate 26,9g,"

I have learned much over the weekend on this site and have yet to meet my diabetic nurse. Am waiting to receive The GL book for Dummies (Is that right...DL?)

Anyway that looks like a lot of carbs to me in my lunch.

What do you reckon?

Last week I ate a whole tin of chick peas late evening. They are like sweets.( I don't eat sweets or chocolate ) I like beans and chick peas....
I'm not veggie though....

I don't think that 26g is a HUGE amount.

Is that ALL you had though?

I'd be more concerned about the after effects of chowing down on half a tin of beans!

It's all relative to be honest. I would say ir's probably lower than average but some would disagree. It's less than I have though ! The question should be are you happy with this diet ? Can you maintain it and is it keeping your BG levels within desired range ? If yes to all 3 then it's a good number !

As a type1 i have plenty of carbs but i make sure the sugar contents is as low as possible,As cabs get broken down in to energy over a period of hours and sugar is a quick FIX which spikes your blood sugars

Yes it is. And a cup of tea.... And I feel stuffed.

I don't eat a lot. I only ear when I'm hungry.I don't eat breakfast 'til about 11.00 and that is always the same. 1 piece of toasted wholemeal bread (unbuttered) 1 slice of Aldi ham and a fried free range egg which I dry fry in my lovely non stick frying pan.

That keeps me going 'til about 3.00 and I always cook a dinner about 6-7pm. I usually eat a portion of liver and a pile of courgettes, broccoli,(No butter or gravy) mushrooms and onions which I cook in the barest minimum of olive oil. The I have a couple of small glasses of rose wine and always end up having a brandy and orange and then bed at about midnight and up at 7am.

I don't think I eat badly. I don't eat sweets or chocolate or crisps or drink fizzy drinks.... I never eat potatoes. This isn't for any dietry reasons I just don't seem to get hungry. I feel like I have had a gastric band. The reason I went to my doctor about a fortnight ago was to find out why my tummy has got so huge. She suggested a blood test and that is when I was told I am type 2.
My last blood test was I suppose about 3 years ago and I was told that I was almost type 2 and to watch my diet. I was put on Simvastatin at 40 mg a day as my cholesterol was 7.6 My cholesterol is now 5.2 which I am very happy with as I always take my Simvastatins. I was diagnosed with Emphasyma in Jan 2011 and my life fell apart as I have lost my Dad,Uncle, partner and sister. They were all dead at 52 except my partner who died in 2003 aged 49.
When I moved into a 1 bed flat in 2006 I weighed 10 stone and didn't have an ounce of fat on me as IU had been extremely active for most of my life and was a gardener for 30 years.I now weigh 15 stone and look dreadful and have lost all my confidence.
Since my Emphasyma diagnosis my weight has rocketed as I do virtually no exercise these days and get very breathless very quickly.
I am also pretty depressed and don't go out much. Luckily I live near a bus stop and twice a week I go to Aldi,my favourite shop in the small town where I live. The town is on one big hill and I can't walk back from shopping as it is uphill all the way.

So this type 2 diagnosis I am hoping will be the kick up the **** that I need to lose this weight, learn to drink responsibly and eat slightly better.

I am very happy I found this forum as you are all so supportive....

Ah, fair enough.

If it fills you up & you're happy :)
I though you'd maybe had them mixed in with a salad.

The people on this site ARE really supportive.

If you're not able to get out much but are a bit of a bookworm or have other interests, I'm sure you'll get loads of
book recommendations/ideas for stuff to keep your mind busy.

You'll probably find there's someone on here who's just down the road too!

I spend a lot of time on the internet.
All the while I can write an E mail and play sodding Pet Rescue I feel like I will be able to tell if my brain isn't working properly.
Altzeimers is something I am fearful of as I live on my own and have few friends ( My choice ) The thought of losing my mind is awful....
I don't talk on the net though. Never use Skype or Facebook chat. I would far rather phone people. I use an old fashioned mobile phone which does me fine. My daughter in law has an I phone 4s and she has arguments with her ex (my son) by text.
This bamboozles me as you can't beat a chat on the phone and folk can so easily get the wrong end of the stick by text eh....

Lung problems seem to run in my family. Especially on my Dads side. My lovely Mum was the youngest of 4 girls and at 86 has more energy than me and will probably go the same way as her 3 older sisters who all died in their late nineties... As did their parents.

I am now 55 and it's a weird age. Neither young or old. I have definitely lost my looks to this damned weight gain. I would dearly love to lose 5 stone but I am going to have to take this slowly and give myself realistic goals.

See...?? I am learning already !!

I always have a large good quality salad for lunch with plenty of salad dressing which I made make before work each day.

For comparison purposes, a Sainsbury 220g salad bowl contains:

Iceberg Lettuce; Romaine Lettuce; Cherry Tomatoes; Creamy Chive Dressing (16%); Cucumber; Radish; Salad Cress.Creamy Chive Dressing contains: Rapeseed Oil, Single Cream (from Cows' Milk), Water, Pasteurised Free Range Egg Yolk, Chive, Spirit Vinegar, Sugar, Lemon Juice, Salt, Mustard Flour, Mustard Seed Husk, Pimento, White Pepper, Mustard Powder, Turmeric.

That amounts to 208 kcal and 5.2 g carbohydrate.

A slice of Burgen for breakfast costs 11.9 g.

By the time I go home in the evening, I've used 11.9 + 5.2 = 17.1.

That gives me plenty of latitude with dinner and the opportunity to eat some fruit.
