Is 42 too old to try for a baby?

Quite a personal question and I'm not sure how I feel about asking. But my partner and I were going to try for a baby 2 years ago before I got diagnosed. Since then I've been a bit scared about trying to get pregnant not only because of my diagnosis but also because of my age. Are there any type 1 out there who have done this?
We hadn't really discussed it much but have recently thought it will be too late soon so we should face up to the fact sooner rather than later.

My control is good and my hba1c is 42 and my consultant is happy for us to go ahead but I'm really concerned it might not be possible and stressing about complications. Any advice.

No, it's not too old. I'm sure I read that there's been a huge increase in the number of women in their 40s giving birth.

Obviously, the risk of genetic disorders may be higher as you get older, but I'm sure you know that anyway. My friend had her last baby after the age of 45 so you're not old :)

If you're anxious why not talk to your GP or consultant? I'm sure they could answer any concerns you might have. Diabetes has to be managed during pregnancy, but there's no reason why that should be harder just because you're that little bit older. Your HbA1C is very good and you say your consultant is happy. Sounds promising to me :)

That's all very spiffing I'm sure, but ladies' systems tend to be more time sensitive than gentlemens2.

Good luck with it @drahawkins_1973 . Get your research done pronto, and if it all stacks up then make hay whilst the sun shines, so to speak. I'm sure your medics will give you candid information.
 
My neighbour's daughter was forty four when she gave birth to twins. Older mothers were quite common 60/70 years ago, my baby sister was born when mum was forty and I remember some of my friends also had siblings born to mothers in their forties.
Times and attitudes have changed since I had my youngest at the age of thirty three, my notes classed me as a geriatric mother and that was in the 70's:eek::eek::eek::eek:
If you have the means and the energy for the toddler years then go for it
 
I had my first at 39 and my second at 41. I was diagnosed with type 1 during my first pregnancy. My consultant suggested if we wanted another we should get on with it as my control was good and I wasn't getting younger.
 
Not too old at all, Mum had me when she was 40 and my sister when she was 44! :)

Not at allmy wife had our youngest daughter at 42 without any probs at all ,go for it and don't believe all you read about older ladies having probs
