Hi All,
I was talking to a friend today who has been diabetic for 10 years now; I had no idea. She attended a Diabetic get together yesterday and was told that the Government was going to withdraw funding from the Ex-pert course through out the country. I'm not sure about any where else, but this is the only Diabetic course they run here. Concerned to here this as I feel any of these courses can only help to improve diabetes awareness and help the likes of me (newly diagnosed) understand about this condition. I've only heard good things about it so why withdraw this service? Does anyone else know anything about this whisper?

I have to say, Maggie, I haven't heard this, although I do know that many areas (including my own) have been developing their own T2 education material over recent times. My area never utilised Ex-Pert, but used DESMOND.

I feel confident your area will still offer some form of education for diabetics, but you could find yourself actually picking up a lot of the really valuable stuff just by using this forum and doing a bit of reading for yourself.

Hi
I have already picked up invaluable information here and will carry that forward for my own use but I'm considering those who are not as lucky as me and haven't. I have been spreading the word about the forum but I'm only one person. I'm in a bit of a back water, where things are not always taken up by the many but mainly the few, which may be why their considering axing it. I just feel its something which shouldn't be lost as it could help those who may not find this forum and want to bury their heads in the sand. I feel it's too important to loose. I used to be a nurse so I'm probably more proactive than most as I've seen the consequences of poor control first hand, but most don't have that motivation, including my mother who would eat anything she liked especially cake regardless of whatever any of us children said to deter her. Any way I was just concerned that it shouldn't be lost also didn't know if this was going to be a national issue, just thought I'd highlight it and see what others had heard or thought.
Thanks for your response and reasurance.
Maggie
