Is it cheating to take your blood glucose before you get out of bed? I have been borderline for 2 to 3 years but 2 weeks ago a fasting test at my doctors showed it was 7.7. Doctor said i was definately diabetic. So i put myself on a 800 - 900 calorie diet with carbs as low as i could go which is usually less than 40 gms carbs. I have 10 stone to lose  and in the 10 days i have been doing it i have lost 14 lbs. Now to get back to my original point, my testing bloods in the morning was after a shower etc and they were coming back in the 7.4's to 8.9's. Then i read on here about the dawn bump so started taking them after cleaning my finger whilst i was still in bed. They then went to 6.8, 6.1 and today to my shock 5.5. Does it give you a truer picture of what is happening if i do it before getting out of bed or after morning ablutions. Thanks in advance of any reply. i appreciate any help..

The timing of the test is absolutely up to you. There are no rules. However, moving about, showering, normal morning activities is likely to raise your levels. All that matters is that you are consistent in your timing, the same time every time you test. Then you just look for trends, upwards or downwards. Hopefully downwards. So no, it isn't cheating at all. :)

Good luck with your weight loss.

Well done. I am not an expert by any means. You could try taking your blood test then quick dash to the fridge for some cheese. I am finding that the DP is starting to lessen recently.

Are you keeping a spreadsheet with your readings and a detailed food diary. I can also recommend the app mySugr for your phone.

My blood sugar still creeps up if I don’t eat as soon as I get up. So I get up wash finger, test blood, have a wee then straight downstairs for breakfast. Showering and dressing happens after I’ve eaten!
