Hey,

All my life I've had loose stools on mornings. Usually, i have to run 3-4 times to the toilet after breakfast or coffee. Rest of the day is pretty normal, except for leaky gut, feeling full or reduced appetite. I also have constant fatigue, confusion, difficulties with memory and more or less an aliphatic feeling. Occasionally sleep issues. Even if I sleep full 8 hours I feel drained the day after.

I’ve had bubbly sensations in on the left side on my stomach and on the upper left side of my back as well. Sometimes i get a sticky feeling as well. This has been for years. I’ve had situations where I felt unbearable pain in my stomach, but doctors had found no cause for this.

I used to be on Cymbalta for depression during 6 months, which cured my “depression” and made my stool normal again. But as soon as I stopped taking Cymbalta, the IBS symptoms returned, so did the fatigue and depressed feelings. So for the last 2+ years, i have felt fatigued and depressed.

I went to my GP and described these issues. He described me Cymbalta again. He said if Cymbalta worked for me in the past, it should work as well 2nd time again. But I'm afraid of the permanent side effects, Especially the brain zaps withdrawal effect which I experienced the 1st time taking Cymbalta.

This has made me wonder, am I depressed or do I have IBS? Since depression can trigger IBS like symptoms and IBS can trigger depression symptoms.

I have recently started a food map program to see if my diet is affecting my stomach. So far, with little luck.

I also read up on Probiotics and natural supplements to relieve the symptoms of IBS. Any other natural supplements I can try and buy online?

I’m afraid to take Cymbalta mostly due the horrific brain zaps and withdrawals, even if Cymbalta worked for me the 1st time. But neither do I want to feel fatigued and “depressed”.

I also have Diabetes 1, for the past 15 years. It's under control.

Do you have any tips for my current situation?

Tried Colpermin?

"Colpermin IBS relief capsules contain peppermint oil as their active ingredient.

The capsules have a special coating, called an enteric coat, that stops the capsules dissolving until after they've passed through the stomach and upper intestine. Once the capsule reaches the lower intestine it slowly releases the peppermint oil as it passes through the bowel.

The peppermint oil acts directly on the smooth muscle in the bowel wall, causing it to relax. This helps reduce painful spasms and pressure in the bowel and eases bloating and wind."

Hello there, Kaup.

Do you always have the same thing, or the same sorts of things at breakfast? I'm sort of wondering if what you have is a food intolerance, rather than necessarily a general IBS.

Sadly, food sensitivities can give us all sorts of weird and wonderful symptoms we might only realise once we eliminate that food from out diet, and the weirdness goes away.

Just a thought but have you been tested for coeliac disease? These can all be symptoms and if you are type 1 you are at higher risk for it.

Hi, I had IBS for years. The symptoms went away completely since I switched from high carb diet to low carb.

I kept going to the doctors about my ibs, which he didn t believe in so i know how your feeling.I learn to keep away from certain trigger foods.I was depressed about it for years tbh gas used to be a real problem for me,still is to an extent but I ve learned to live with it wish you all the best.

Hello Kaup, I'm so sorry about your troubles. I had very similar problems for about five years. I switched (with support of my doctor) to animal insulin and the constant "running to the loo" went away, along with constant memory problems and confusion. All of that was making me depressed - understandably. Plus I gained a bit of weight which I really needed to do.

I don't have any tips, but that was the solution for me - animal insulin.

Hi I have had the same symptoms re going to the loo and the pain down the left side of my tummy. I have had type 1 diabetes for 42 years. I was sent to see a doctor who deals with diabetic neuropathy and he did lots of tests on me. He said it was diabetic nerve damage to my bowel and tummy. He said the attacks would happen every so often whatever I did but to keep my blood glucose levels as close to normal as I could. He gave me some powders called Questran Light and these have been fantastic. They have stopped the gurgling tummy and the going to the loo sometimes every 18 mins through the night, which as you can imagine left me very tired and no energy. I have also gone on to a freestyle libre sensor and reader and again this has really helped me with my glucose levels. If your doctor could have a look at giving you the powders these may help you. I think they are used to bring down cholesterol but they really helped me. I hope this info helps. Take care
