Hi @Clematis1 , welcome to the forum.I had a blood test in June and was told the result was 49. I cut out a lot of sugar after seeing a diabetes nurse and took another test after 12 weeks, only to find out my levels had only gone down to 46. Feeling very despondent I started looking at carbs but my latest test shows my level is now 47. I am now wondering if milky drinks are my problem, I probably drink 4 coffees a day made with semi skimmed milk. There is so much conflicting information out there. I only weigh 8 and a half stone, am 5ft 5 and am 62. Otherwise very healthy and active.
Thank you for your reply. I have all milk in my coffees, no water. I have never been recommended to use a glucose monitor but after reading many of the posts on this site, it seems a good idea.Hi @Clematis1 , welcome to the forum.
Would you like to share what else you usually eat throughout the day?
I don't know how much milk you use in your coffee, but I'd expect other foods are contributing more to the carbs you have than those 4 coffees.
As for the conflicting information, what about using a glucose meter before and two hours after meals to see how those meals affect you? A meter doesn't have any bias over one diet over the other, it just shows you what is, and you can work with that.
I would 100% agree with the advice on testing from @Antje77 and on this forum generally.Thank you for your reply. I have all milk in my coffees, no water. I have never been recommended to use a glucose monitor but after reading many of the posts on this site, it seems a good idea.
Porridge, fruit, whole meal bread, possibly the soup, depending on ingredients, sandwich, banana, and sweet potato are all high carb foods. So I think you have lots of options to get your numbers down a bit more!I usually have porridge for breakfast with a little fruit. Then lunch is either a slice of whole meal bread with poached egg or some tinned fish, or homemade soup. If I am working, a sandwich probably with prawns or salmon. Then some plain Greek yoghurt and a banana or some mixed nuts. Dinner is meat or fish, vegetables or salad and usually sweet potato. In between I have four coffees made with all milk. If that is 50g of carbs a day that is huge. I think I need to buy a test kit to see what the culprit is. Cutting out sugar hasn’t helped.
