I was reading about the LCHF diet and noted it's type 2 's who follow it. Is it a suitable diet for type 1's; does anyone follow it? Thoughts please.

Going to tag @robert72 as he follows this diet, has type 1 diabetes and has excellent bg control.

Hi Jane,

Yes I follow it, however don't eat a high content of fat, I do eat healthy fat when I do, so nuts, good quality rapeseed oil and cheese (as that's my chocolate now !).

Ok good advice. I prefer olive oil ( heart protection) but I don't suppose that matters. What type of cheese?

I've been low-carbing for about 2.5 years and have no problems with it. I had to lower my basal a bit and rework my boluses, but my BGs are much more level (average 5.7 and SD of ±1.5) and my HbA1c is down to 5.5

I've only been diabetic for18 months, having been diagnosed at 47! My hba1c has been steadily dropping as its tested every 3 month by the hospital. The last time it was 8, my daily bg is averaging at around 7 at the moment, and my cholesterol is just under 5. I don't eat particularly low carb but am interested in reducing my intake. I have read the suggested article and am definitely going to follow it.

I reduced carbs slowly over several months so was able to adjust insulin along the way.
