Just curious if there is ever a better time than any other when carbs would have the least affect on your BS. For example I exercise a lot and wonder if I could get away with say something like porridge right before going to the gym,,or say have a snack at the gym for energy whilst working out,, or perhaps it be better after the gym or doing a 4 or 5 mile run to then eat something more carby right after ?

Anyone know when you can get away with some? I'm sure I read on here awhile ago about certain times / windows of opportunity.

I'm Pre D not type 2 or 1 yet in case that makes a difference.

It's better to train yourself off craving carbs than try to figure out how to sneakily indulge the craving.

im not really craving carbs,,, its just that I feel a little less energetic at times working out these days since I decided to cut the carbs and wondered what affect they might have right before during or after exercise.

I get what you all say about testing and its something I am considering in case I'm doing myself out of things I don't need to, but I dont think that would help in this case. From what I read on here to test you should test before eating and then again about 2hrs after. In this case I would be going to the gym right after eating and the gym is only about 5 mins from where I live so I will be in the gym or just leaving when I should be testing,,, and the workout is bound to affect it. Would expect my levels to be all over the place depending on what exercises I am doing, etc.

Today for eg, I had a bowl of porridge before going (first porridge in months) and tbh I had my best workout in months,, was in there for 2.30hrs and although I was nackered by the time I left I doubt I would have gone on so long previously , but maybe that just in my head. Its hard to think that taking something that might provide more energy and give me a better longer workout causing me to get fitter and stronger could still be having an adverse affect ???

Can the body not take higher levels during exercise? Is that not why athletes etc take on lucozade and things to give them more energy during?

To simply answer your question, no!
When doing strenuous exercise your liver helps with the production of glucose to help you.
There is just no need for the carbs to provide more glucose when your body gets it from fat reserves.
You can get what you need from veg and protein.

There is a recent decline in using any form of rehydration in professional sports except water.
Energy drinks are a quick fix. Nothing else, and they are useless for long work outs and stamina.
