Seriously? What chance have the newly diagnosed got if they take DUK as their primary information source?

There are people with the greatest of intentions, following these recipes intently, and wondering why their BG is out of control.

It's like telling people with manic depression to watch sad movies...

Bl**dy infuriating...

Oh gawd......

There is no way that is good.

Usually, I like DUK. But that is just stupid.

How absolutely ridiculous!!! I'll have just the 2 egg whites please :-)

I'm going to leave feedback as it offers against the recipe indicating a may be 'a touch inappropriate' ... maybe if we all do the same they will stop suggesting stooopid recipes, either that or ban us all

But it is fat free!

Müller™ light® instead of cream - that's just genius! Thanks DUK! :P

Just received their emailed newsletter. Saw this recipe on the front page and decided to look further at it as I love cherries... what I found really surprised me - hardly a diabetic friendly recipe!

Cherry compote (generally made with sugar)

2 x muller light yoghurts (how much sugar in these? Lots!)

50g caster sugar (What?!?)

Trifle sponges... (sugar content?)

http://www.diabetes.org.uk/Guide-to-diabetes/Food_and_recipes/Recipes/Cherry-meringue/

Assuming you're conscious enough to eat it, I'd imagine it would bring anyone out of a hypo pretty **** sharpish!

Blimey, they are spinning off into some sort of sugar crazed dimension there aren't they?

I followed the link to have a look around their site and found this in the 'advice' on alcohol -

"Serious hypoglycaemia can occur with larger quantities of alcohol, particularly if you are treated with insulin and especially if too little carbohydrate is eaten. If this could apply to you, always make sure you take some carbohydrate before going to bed after drinking. Useful snacks include toast, cereal and sandwiches, although chips or pizza on the way home may be an easier, albeit unhealthier, option."

So, there you have it - if you are going to booze heavily don't forget to eat chips and pizza too.

Also, is there a jovial type of hypoglycaemia? And what if you've been drinking beer ? Then on your way home all that pizza is just going to add to the stratospheric blood sugars you will have worked up.

This is almost like a spoof site testing irony to the limit ...

By the way, try saying "as a diabetic you really should be eating plenty of carbohydrate" in your best Roger Moore accent and it does become quite funny...

/me sighs

Remember, the big push right now is against type 2 and we all know the favourite media angle with that - obesity. So who will care if it's high in carbs so long as folk aren't eating fat eh? Let's not worry about the fact that some fat is good...

Yeah, we're pretty much boned aren't we?

Ken.

I'ts no joke, I fully expect the Farmer study to be used to justify the withdrawal of prescription test strips for non insulin dependant T2s, combined with recipes like that from DUK  it does not bode well for the newly diagnosed.

Now, what were the chances of Müller being one of DUK's 'corporate partners'? You couldn't make this stuff up.

To answer the question, yes, it is a joke.
And the joke is on all those poor buggers taking dietary advice from this lot.
I despair sometimes.

ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha like we would really eat cr*p like that, only folk gonna have a dabble at that are those who enjoy spending time attached to the ceiling by thier finger nails screaming like a sugered up diabetic type person.

Thanks for the link Ken, I did flip through the report looking for precisely that list of perps before posting my question, and managed to miss it totally! What a shame "conflict of interest" is only a moral stance rather than being a point of law?
