Is This OK?

Over the past couple of days, when I take my BS before eating and then again afterwards there is hardly any difference ie: before a meal 5.8 and after 5.9. Why is this after I have eaten?

I have also noticed that, if I have eaten something like a plain biscuit (rich tea) I feel a bit dizzy and tired for a while. I know I shouldn't eat a biscuit but it's the effects I was wondering about.
 
You should take it 2 hours after, not just after. If you are reducing your carbs any sugar can make a difference, I've overdosed on xmas cake - not much but I just go zonk.

I do wait for 2 hrs before I test, though I have done it at 1 hr as well a few times
 
apart from the rich tea, what are you eating? if numbers arent going up after food i guess that means your eating the things that work for you :) which is great! keep it up, be nice to get that pre number down a little too

have you changed your name? i swear i recongnise your pic from a different name? or maybe im going nuts

Hi Andy,
I only have a rich tea occasionally but intend to phase them out. For breakfast I usually have 1 Weetabix with a little skim milk, main meal will be good serving of salad or vedg and chicken, fish or a little ham, and now and then I will have 30g of Smash with the vedg, small meal could be 2 thin slices of stoneground wholemeal bread (or 1 if I don't feel very hungry) with chicken, slice of ham or corned beef with 5ml of ketchup. Snacks if I want them are about 50g of mixed nuts spread throughout the day.

hi, it depends what numbers you would like to achieve and how strict you are prepared to be to achieve them, your already doing great with your control so there would be an argument for carrying on as you are, if you were to modify your diet slightly i reckon your pre meal numbers could be in the fours, the weetabix is probly not helping or the smash, the ketchup is better if homemade, but this is me being criticle, i know many would be very happy being where your at, counting carbs means just that, i would count eveything even the milk and veg, you may be over estimating the veg, your trying and suceeding here i feel like im beating you up for no reason, im not meaning to, keep up the good work :) the simple answer to your original question "is this ok" is yes :)
 
If it ain't broke, don't fix it ! As Andy says, many people would dream of readings like yours ! Well done.

I'm aiming for BS numbers between 4 and 5, Andy - nearer to 4. I have had a few in the 4s. Does losing weight lower your BS like it does with cholesterol?
 
yes it seems to as being over weight is often the cause of insulin resistence, im not clever enough to explain the technicalities but how i understand it is being overweight can cause the cell receptors that accept the insulin to change and no longer be able to use the insulin efficiantly enough to allow the glucose to pass from your blood into your cells, you cells then tell your brain that it needs more insulin, it in turn tells your pancreas to produce more insulin which your deformed receptors cant use and it all goes round in a circle, which makes your pancreas work too hard making insulin it dosent need to make whilst the glucose cant get out of your blood, so yes lol being a healthy weight makes your receptors revert back to their proper shape and allow the glucose in to the cells again and gives your pancreas the well needed rest and of course lowers you blood glucose reading :)

sorry in this makes little sense, im typing it out on my phones little screen, and its only my understanding, if im wrong maybe someone will correct me and we can both understand it better :)
