I've only had my pump for a few days and still only have saline in it. The set went in fine when I did the first one at the clinic and it stayed in the 3 recommended days without me noticing it too much. I changed it on the 3rd day and the site itself was really painful and it also hurt quite a lot whenever saline went in so I changed the set again and used another site and although this one doesn't hurt I get a stinging sensation when a bolus saline is delivered (don't feel anything for the basal dose). Does this mean I've hit scar tissue or is it still okay? The dsn told us that we shouldn't feel anything and if we do then we need to try again. I'm using the Inset II and so far I'm not very confident about it. Of course testing won't tell me anything at the moment as it's only saline. Please help.

It might be possible to alter the flow of insulin delivered as the bolus as it goes into the set. Looking online at the Vibe manual and also reading other msgs by Vibe users, if you go into the Bolus menu and find the Advanced section, you can alter how quickly you want the bolus delivered. Another option would be to use a Wave such as Extended and just activate the lowest number of minutes like 15mins and deliver the bolus that way.
When putting in the Insett try to relax, stand up but not tensed and hold the housing against the skin with the spring cocked and then press in the sides to release the spring and the set should fire in ok with little bother. Looking at the TV while you release the spring is good.

It does get easier with practice. If it hurts it's probably wrong so best to change it but I expect you will get less 'wrong' sites as you get used to inserting the cannula

A little later I tested and blood sugar had gone up, so I changed the set and it had bent at a right angle. That's the only problem I've had so far, but I've only been pumping a month.But as Kalobe said it should get easier as we practice. IHS I normally sit and do a set change, should I stand when I change as DSN hasn't told me not to sit.

Thanks for your replies - I'm starting to know where my bad sites are now. I've also found things like if the set is in my leg I have to stand to do a bolus so it doesn't hurt. If I'm sitting it does hurt - must be nerve endings/muscle moving according to my position? I've not found one cannula to be bent or anything yet so all's good so far.
