Had lunch, home made quiche with full fat cheese, bacon, small amount of onion and semi skimmed milk. Tested two hours later and reading was 5.8. This is the lowest I have had since testing and wanted to know whether this is good or whether it is too low. :?:

It sounds great to me! Don't quote me, but I think too low is under 4.

I'm quite jealous of your 5.8 !

The quiche sounds nice too. I presume that the pastry was very thin - as pastry can send the Glucose up, I think.

No.

As Tony the carb pushing Tiger would say "That's GGGGGRRRRRRRReeeeaaatttt!"

It was pastry free. God knows what reading would have been with the pastry, through the roof probably. Made it in a pyrex flan dish, doesnt stick but then there so much fat with the cheese etc it probably wouldnt anyway! lol

So easy to make and very quick.

5.8 is not too low. In fact it's right at the TOP of what i allow my BG to go up to. If Ihit a 6[which is rare] I'm furious with myself.

Hi Hana
Only been diagnosed a few months and still learning. Did the x-pert course and following their diet advice til I realised it was not working as was not testing very much as the nurse said not to.

Since low carbing gradually coming down. Have a lot to learn though and still a way to go. Not taking medication just doing by diet. Hopefully wont have to take medication if I can control by diet alone.

Great well done!

The average healthy non diabetics fasting levels is in the low to mid 4's so no problem at all with 5.8 but the number which is "too low" varies from person to person and by time of day, how fast your levels are falling, loads of factors. Some members have fasting levels in the 3's.

The NICE guidelines say try to keep your fasting levels between 4 & 7 as a T2. The good thing about getting them on the low side is it gives you more scope on what is safe to eat i.e what you can eat and keep below 8 after 2 hours.

Hi there 5.8 is excellent! I was told anything between 4 and 10 is fine. My target bg is 6, so would be happy with your reading!

NICE guidelines (National Institute for Clinical Health and Excellence - I think!) for Type 2 are as follows:

Fasting/before meals: 4 - 7
2 hours after eating: less than 8.5 (but I prefer less than 7.8).

So 5.8 is well on target. Well done!

Thanks for all your replies, its much appreciated. I manage to keep all my daytime readings low now as know what I can and cant eat.

Just have to concentrate on my mornings now. They have improved as they were in the high end of 8's and sometimes in the low 9's. Now they are mostly in the 7's so definitely an improvement. I am hoping that as I lose weight and carry on low carbing they will gradually come down as well. Have lost 13lb so far but still have quite a lot to lose. But in this for the long haul.

The longhaul is exactly the right attitude. Great on the weight loss too. I found mine stopped and started on low carb so I would get stuck for a couple of weeks then lose a load pretty quickly then get stuck again so don't get disheartened if that happens.
