I was diagnosed back at the beginning of March with an Hba1c of 68, in the back of my mind I knew it was only a matter of time before I had a major health issue seeing as my weight was over 270 pounds on a 5 foot 4 body…but is not really real until it is. I had lost a lot of weight using intermittent fasting about five years ago and liked the way it made me feel. Unfortunately emotional dramas in my life sent me back to the comforting embrace of sugar and carbs and it all piled back on with some added Pandemic pounds for good measure.
Immediately I got the call from the surgery I looked and found this , the detailed information I read here, aligned with my knowledge of IF put me on the straight and narrow and I quit sugar and all carbs except those in veg and the lower carb fruits. I also dropped to having one meal a day…this is too extreme for many people but works very well for me and, after the initial week or so of sugar withdrawal, has been a very comfortable way to eat.
In the last three and a half months I’ve lost 35 pounds and managed to bring my Hba1c down from 68 to 39!!! I will continue to test and continue to eat low carb and healthy fats, but I had to come here and share, both to show that it’s possible and ( more importantly) to say thank you to everyone here for their help, generosity of time and information and support.

Great stuff! Well done.

Amazing...I have a high Hba1c and am trying to cope with just diet...and tend to eat dinner really late which isnt recommened.. and i usually in the past had just 2 meals but tons of bought fruit juice...at least 10L a week, but hardly any processed food...when do you have your one meal please, and do you eat anything else and when do you do your glucose monitor tests? Thanks... its possible then...

Bought fruit juice - the drink of the devil! This is a high sugar, rapidly absorbed drink that must be playing havoc with your blood glucose levels. What could you drink instead? Water, tea, coffee, sugar free squash, zero carbohydrate soft drinks.
Hezzal, you have done fantastically well! Congratulations!

I think 1litre of orange juice is 86 gm of carbs - so 10 litres a week would mean you were having more than the upper limit advised for low carb every day just in juice. Cutting that out should make a huge difference to the strain on your metabolism, though best to lower carbs gradually if you have been seeing high blood glucose levels as it could be quite a shock.
