Itchy, flaky scalp from high blood glucose?

I get an itchy scalp when my glucose is high. I believe it gets worse in the moment when the sugar is high. Has anyone else experienced this?

I have also lost some hair, but do not know if my diabetes is the main cause, one of several causes, or not a cause at all.
Experience?

It's always the question of correlation and causation.

Best regards!

Not a T1 here, but I've dealt with a little fungal infection on the scalp. Didn't know what it was, but it cleared up with medication from the doc's. Any time my blood sugars go up though it comes right back. Might not be related, just thought I'd mention it.

At its worst. I had an itchy scalp, prior to going low carb. One of the long list of symptoms that have now been reversed after low carb eating reduced my blood sugars clear of the Prediabetic range.

It was at this point in time, about a year ago that I knew something was wrong and tried to set up an appointment with a dietician but was refused, Googled the internet and discovered the lchf dietary solution to diabetic symptoms.

So yes, the correlation was there in my case.

My 12-year-old daughter who is type 1 has itchy scalp sometimes. Never thought to link it to diabetes. Got me thinking.
When it’s bad, she uses coal tar shampoo. It’s not perfect but dies seem to relieve symptoms a lot.

I suffered from really itchy scalp, bad dandruff all my life, until I started using K2 supplements. It has since simply disappeared, I'm not saying this is the answer and I'm also not saying this is what you should do or is your cause. Just relating my experience. K2 is does increase insulin sensitivity, so there is that to consider when using insulin as I also do.
