Hi Everyone! I am a bit shy and, even though I have been a member for a while, I have only just plucked up the courage to introduce myself!

I have been a T2 diabetic for well over 25 years (I am now 67 years old) and have "progressed" from diet only to Metformin, Gliclazide, and Saxagliptin and then to insulin injections. Even though I knew exactly what I was doing to myself healthwise, I continued to be an "emotional eater" and I ended up weighing 14st 2lbs, my HBa1c was >100-something, and my bg was always around double figures. I constantly felt depressed, lethargic, and not myself at all-I just existed.

In mid-2015, I had narrowing of the arteries in my legs and had to have balloons inserted into some of my veins and I also needed a total right hip replacement, which I had 3 weeks ago.

Now the good news!! I needed to lose some weight for my hip operation so in February this year I embarked on Dr Michael Mosley's "8-week Blood Sugar diet". I am so happy to report that I have lost 3st 2lbs, my bg is averaging 6.5, and I am no longer on any diabetes medication!! My GP and Diabetes nurse cannot believe it!!

So, I wanted to share my success story with you all!!

Wow an intro and success story all in one.. very well done you. Just goes to how that even after a long time diet still plays a huge part in controlling our condition.

Out of interest, has your mood lifted too? Do you feel more energetic?

Well done @sandwalk
That's really encouraging. Though I do need to add that you will need to keep things under control. I hope you are recovering well from the hip op.

I am delighted that I have received some replies! Thankyou!
In answer to the question about my mood...yes, I feel more lively and more cheerful now plus it is so lovely to see a slimmer woman in my mirror! I know that I have to be very careful with what I eat from now on, especially as I am still quite immobile due to my recent hip op, and I have decided to continue with the 800 calories a day from the Blood Sugar book and add another 200 calories a day of low-carb food because I want to lose another stone before I am satisfied with how I look!
