I've broken my pump!

My battery went low on my pump last night and I wasn't at home with the key to open the battery holder. I've got the accu Chek combo.
In a moment of madness my partner and I tried to open it with a coin and have now bent the plastic and now the key won't fit to open it.
Can someone give me some advice as to what to do please? Does anyone know of a company that will repair it? It's insured but under the 'accidental damage' section it says it won't cover things that were 'bound to happen' so I don't think they'll cover this.

I've gone back onto my injections today which I'm devastated about.
Do I inject the same doses that I was injecting before the pump?
My bg is 18.6 at the moment but I think that's due to stress.

Thanks for any advice.

I'm not familiar with that pump, but my advice would be to contact the pump company asap to find out. They should have a 24hr emergency line.

Animas send out spare and replacement battery caps so I would contact your pump supplier to see if they do the same.

Its not the fact that spares are needed, they cant unscrew the battery cap....
Have you tried with a large flat edge screwdriver? Or a smaller coin? Did you try with a 1p?

May be a long shot but could you take your pump to a jeweller or an electrical repair place as they might have the tools to undo it for you.

Thanks for your replies.
My dad is an engineer so I'm going to see if he can do anything with it. I tried all sorts of coins on it and noting worked.
I haven't tried a screwdriver though.
I'll see if I can do a bodge job on it for now and see what I can do!
Does the new one come out in November? I remember my DSN saying something about being able to upgrade later in the year so if need be I'll have to wait until then and just inject in the mean time I think.
I've tried contacting my DSN today to see if she can advise me but she's not answering or replying to my texts, even though it's an emergency pump number!!

Something simple like suction so you can clamp onto the top of the cover and then turn it would do the trick. Hopefully your Dad can come to the rescue for you :)

I'm really hoping he can! It looks like I've tightened it too tight last time I've changed it.
I'm gutted

Hi dont worry

ive got a few of the accu chek combo battery caps laying about that hsve never been used. Send me a pm with yr address and one will be in the post tomoz....
in the meantime, use a 1p coin to undo the cap or 5p.

Thank you so much everyone, my dad has managed to fix it for me and get the cap off.
I'm so relieved!!
Thanks for your offer iHs that's very kind of you, I've found a service kit and have put a new one on now I've managed to get the old one off.
Will be ordering new service kits in the morning :)

Because I did levemir this morning and I was on a split dose before my pump do I put my pump back on 12 hours after i injected?

Hi

glad yr dad sorted it and that youve got a service pack with the cap. Re the pump.....as youve split yr levemir dose, what I would do is turn the pump basal down to 10% (100 - 90) for the remaining levemir hours and then use 100% again and correct any highs with the pump bolus and lows, treat as you do with some glucose or carb. Just keep bg testing anf youll be ok

Phew, thank goodness for that and guess who's Dad deserves a nice present? :)

Definitely! I've never loved him as much as I do now! Daddies girl tonight! X
