Yes. And food industry has Government in it's pocket. Successfully lobbies against improvements to food regulation.

Edible food substitutes - that's what 'they' want us to eat. Then it's our fault that we get obese and sick.

There is definitely something thats causing peoples increased likelihood of developing diabetes ....most prob' all the additives and junk they are putting in the so called food...not to mention pesticides
 
Again, it depends what you buy and where you buy from. If you know the provenance of your food then none of this is an issue. But you have to pay a bit more for it. I have no worries that I am eating any of this, but that's because we check this stuff.

Meat glue is also banned in the EU, so you won't be eating it in the UK, at least while we are still a member...!

We mostly use our village butcher which is the local butcher for all the local farmers. Saturdays you can't move for Tractors trailers 4X4's it's quite a scene but until now we have also gotten meat from Morrisons but no more. I am in fact going to send an email to our local Morrison's explaining why I can no longer buy their meat and why I will be encouraging as many people as possible to do the same. Cheap skate crooks who don't give a hoot for the customer. Otherwise these people would simply sell us food.
 
My only issue with the horse meat was that it wasn't labelled as such! I'd have been a buyer

The horse meat scandal was frightening for the simple reason it meant there were no longer any controls or safety measures in place regarding the consumption of meat. Old knackered horses full of serious antibiotics that would never be allowed in the food chain were being consumed.
What else was in there that we didn't get to know about because it was not being used at the time that particular scandal broke. I'd have no problem eating horse if that's what I'd paid for and wanted. The other disturbing factor is if it had been a market stall holder or small butchers shop there would have at the very least been a visit to the magistrates and a hefty fine and if enough of the stuff had been sold probably a jail term but nothing for these big companies as usual. For management to be able to say we didn't know should have made it an even bigger scandal and a bigger crime! Is it still happening?
Probably or will resume as soon as the dust has settled.
Are we still buying chicken only fit for dogs but it's been passed through bleach baths so looks ok?

You still trust the labels and these sorts of people who really really don't care about your health.
What is wrong with just making money selling us food?
Greed selfishness and an attitude of so what is what is wrong.
Those people are still there ... still providing our food.
I wonder what's in my pain killers that shouldn't be ....
 
To be honest, I have to much else to consider than worry about painkillers.

If you don't like what's in processed food, change. We did, years ago. We know where our food comes from.

Until the population accepts that the continuing reduction in cost of food doesn't mean you get healthy food, this will continue.

It is no longer provided as food at a price but at a price point that the general consumer is asking to see lowered.

The two simply don't add up.
 
With added water for extra succulence
I challenge anyone to inject water into a chicken leg and get it to stay there especially whilst cooking.
The reality is there has to be a chemical mixture to alter it and hold it in there and it's there to make it look bigger plumper and of course add weight which raises the price.
Have a look at this small scale job and then imagine the industrial scale operations!

After using supermarkets for many years, we switched to a local butcher when he started his business about 3 years ago. Not only was there a dramatic difference in taste - for the better - but the meat hardly shrank and stayed juicy when cooked. Says an awful lot, won't be going back to the supermarkets willingly, that's for sure!
 
Huge difference in meats! Totally agree.

I see a huge difference in the colour of egg yolks between organic, freerange and caged....

We humans are killing good natural foods out of our diets.

We are the only animal capable and clever enough to build combine harvesters, grow corn, harvest etc.

But we are the only animals stupid enough to eat it...
 
I really do urge people to go to their local butcher. Ask where the meat comes from ... ask if you can have local. It will cost you more but taste better and be much nearer to being .... food. It costs more but you can afford it by eating less meat if necessary. I'm lucky in that I live in a smalll village and the butcher is part of a local farming family. He is also the butcher for other farmers locally and the local farmers and pubs and restaurants all buy from this small shop. On a Saturday morning there's often a queue that spills out into the street and most of the customers are wearing wellies and have arrived in farm vehicles. I have bought local for some years but have still been stocking the freezer up with supermarket stuff. Having now gotten diabetes and severe diverticulitis I've had no choice but to do some research and the more I do the more horrified I become regarding the food industry.
If you buy your chicken breasts in the supermarkets this is what you're buying ... it's not good news ....
