I have to disagree with the majority of posters on this point, my husband is a retired police officer who used to work in London and from his experience if this happened then a massive amount of crime committed by drug addicts would be cut.
But I have just signed your petition John, been meaning to for ages but not got round to it.

Make it one prescription available only.

I really despair of humanity when i read comments like that.

Heroin addicts are not addicts through choice, that's the definition of an addict.
Heroin is usually used to control women who have been trafficked for the sex trade.

Try actually speaking to some 'useless' addicts.
I help out at several shelters, I've met a doctor, two lawyers, and hundreds of european women who were promised work, and now can't think beyond the next dose.

Personally, I'd much rather try to help them than you. At least they are human.
Yes, we need strips, yes we need to get it sorted out.

But that attitude is disgusting, uncalled for, and so lacking in compassion.... I really am ashamed to be part of the same species.

Would you still have that attitude if your child / partner was addicted?

Well excuse me, but the very FIRST time they took the drug / substance in question, it was very much thier own choice.

Your examples of doctors and lawyers who are addicted are simply people who should have used their supposed intellect BEFORE they even tried the drugs.

I make no apologies for having no sympathy for idiots, nor am I offended or chagrined by the outraged comments of do-gooders like yourselves.

Instead of pandering to addicts, offenders and the like, it's time to make them accountable for their own actions.

You haven't got a clue about how some of these people became addicted. I hope you never walk in their shoes or the shoes of their nearest and dearest.

Type 2's who are overweight at diagnosis are accused of inflicting the condition on themselves,
by lifestyle choices. Is this another category that you have little sympathy for? Perhaps they should be given an insulin shot to end it all?

How about Alcoholics, are they on the list as well?

It's been suggested that this will help lower crime! But would it!

Logic would say, that by providing this to an individual on the NHS, then that individual will not have to bash a granny to get the cash to pay for his supplier.. Fair comment this side most probably work from the individual aspect of the user...

But if you extend this logic past the individual, then you have to consider several other factors... The individual oridginal supply from a ilegal source (drug dealer/pusher) who is earning money out of the transactions.. Now the NHS has removed one of the dealer/pusher clients, the dealer/pusher has lost some of his/her income! what do we recgon the dealer going to do? I very much doubt he/she is going to take a wage cut nor find legit employement (there again they may already have legit employement)... It's a sure bet that the dealer/pusher is going to hunt out another client to replace the one that they lost!!!

So you end up in a revolving door, with ever increaseing demands on the NHS, crime rates not droping, as the next victum raises up through the ladder to there supply from the NHS..

It the same arguement with legalising all drugs, it may prevent an individual drug user becoming a crimal to a certain extent... But how are the dealers/pusher gangs going to replemish there income?

My opinion is that most things tried have and will continal to fail, because ideas such as this one, only deal with one aspect of a much bigger picture, until they start to deal with the whole picture at one go, the chipping away at corners will always fail...

Bit like rehab... spend a lot of time and money to help an individual break there habit... But then return them to there oridginal envirnoment, same friends etc... to where there problems started, no wonder there is only a small success rate....

No, I advocate allowing them to self destruct.

I have walked in the shoes of the nearest and dearest, so your admonishments carry no weight here.

Please remember that whilst you sit astride your high-horse firing off politically correct outrage in every direction, I am entitled to my opinion...I am entitled to express it...and I shall not be brow beated by holier than thou moralists.
