I cant find this info. Does someone on 25mg jardiance need to eat a certain amount of carbs a day to prevent hypo's?

Thanks. So its safe for me to recommend he come on here and learn about low carbing without him risking hypos.

His HbA1c results today are 80 (9.5) and he is also on metformin.

My doc prescribed me 25mg of Jardiance as an alternative to going on insulin, but she didn't issue any warnings at all. I believe she would have done if she thought it might be a problem, but then I had a Hba1 of 13.4 at the time (late March). I've since lowered my dose to 10mg. I know. Naughty girl. I'm also on Victoza and metformin.
I'm sorry if it's not a helpful reply, just my personal experience.

thanks He hasnt been given a meter or test strips and has been told he doesnt need them, despite him driving for a living, so the idea of fewer carbs could cause hypos may be a misunderstanding. His surgery are still telling him he needs the Eatwell plate. I have told him about here and am encouraging him to join. 5 years of the Eatwell plate has made his HbA1c go from 6.8 in 2013 to 9.5 now.

He is also on statins and his cholesterol is 4 and they want it to go lower. He is only 50.

I am so angry I could cry.

I just Googled the question and I got this.

"Can Jardiance cause hypoglycemia?
One of the benefits of Jardiance is that it helps with weight loss without causing hypoglycemia, or a dangerous drop in blood sugar levels, said Meece. “When you are basically urinating glucose, you are urinating calories, and you lose 200 to 300 calories per day taking this drug.4 Aug 2014"

Yeah well, I managed to gain about 20kgs while being on Jardiance as well as Victoza, but then we're all different :) never had a hypo even after going on lchf.

I do hope he joins. He will learn such a lot, not least about diet. As his HbA1c has increased such a lot over the time, despite all his medication, he must surely realise something is wrong, and that diet is probably it. It must surely be worth a try for him. Nothing ventured and all that.
