I was diagnosed T2 in Feb with HbA1c at 97. I lost weight (26kg), started exercising and went lowish carb (average less than 80g per day. No meds.

My last hba1c about 2 months ago was 39 so I was pretty happy with that.

I do BG testing religiously even though I don’t really need to - I pretty well can tell what the reading will be before I get the result.

My morning readings are always between 5.7 and 6.5, mostly about 6. My readings during the day range from 5.2 to 7, very rarely do I get 7 and just once in 9 months I had a 10.

So I know all these numbers are higher than they should be but pretty good for a diabetic.
My question is this, should I push my doctor for meds to try to push into the normal range? My doctor is reluctant to prescribe. Or are my numbers ok to live with?

Hi @Ricmel When are you measuring? If you measure before and then 2hrs after start of a meal then you are testing what you can control. BG numbers can be temporarily beyond our control for other reasons (or longer term beyond our control due to loss of beta cell function either due to overuse or to medication or auto-immune problems).
Shorter term causes for high BG levels include:
1. Infection or injury
2. Stress or lack of sleep
3. Lack of exercise (but not just missing 1 or 2 sessions).
4. High intensity exercise (can give a temporary high or a low reading depending upon how the liver produces glucose in response to it).
4. Medication including Statins and Steroids.

A one off high reading (especially if there is a possible reason for it) is not a concern. Nor is high reading less than 2hrs after a meal or snack because that would be normal for a non-diabetic since the natural insulin is produced in response to the glucose and so the glucose is ahead of the insulin production at first.

Those numbers seem great and I would not push for any meds , even for a non diabetic them numbers would be great and some non diabetics sometimes spike into the low teens , Well done on the weight loss that certainly seems to have done the trick .
