Jubilee Thames Pageant

Well that was all a bit rubbish wasn't it? I like a bit of pageantry as much as the next man, but it's hard to get excited about lots of people rowing down the Thames (well apart from during the boat race). Full marks to the BBC for pretending that it was something exctiting or spectactular for what seemed like 8 hours of coverage. I was excptecting something better, I'm glad I didn't go down to see it in person now.

Let's hope the weather clears up a bit for the Olympics.
 
Yeah me too!! Prince harry's 'I wish i was down the pub with my mates' face summed up the generally miserable atmosphere felt by the many.
 
I was looking forward to it, but I must admit I did nod off for about 45mins towards the end, unlike her Majesty and Prince Philip who stood ram rod straight for the whole afternoon :clap: Makes me proud to be British hearing about our rich maritime history, what better way to involve so many ordinary people. :thumbup:

Stuff the Olympics couldnt be less excited about anything, commercial profiteering at its worst :thumbdown:
 
I will admit it didn't live up to the hype, it went on too long and even the Queen was starting to tire towards the end. Agree with Sid on the comments about Maritime history.
 
highlight was the end bit with the london philharmonic and choir singing Rule Britania and God save the Queen, absolutely drenched.

Very British
 
Personally I think that the BBC should be totally ashamed of themselves with how they decided to cover it... As it ruined it completely..

As they turned it into the presenters, their ghastly studio's and look how many celebrities we have managed to get on board!

When it should have been about the Queen, the boats on the water and why those 1000 boats were chosen, the crowds that lined the river banks...

What pageant? I didn't see anything - not even news cover afterwards.

The Jubilee concert was excellent, though. Serenata Winds (quintet) gave a lovely light classical concert starting with Handel's "Royal Fireworks." They included one very inappropriate item - "Skye Boat Song" (from the Jacobite rebellion.)

The local parish church was packed for the occasion.

During the interval, refreshments were provided, but nothing for me - not even water.
 
Thankfully the Jubilee Concert was much better. Very eclectic mix, although it would have been nice to see some music for the "yoot", a bit of Dizzy Rascal or Tinchy Stryder would have showcased Britains world-leading musical talent a bit better than the artist formerly known as Cheryl Cole.

SIr Tom was good, so was Sir Paul. Dame Shirley and Sir Elton seemed a bit past their peak.

How come Rolf Harris isn't Sir Rolf? He must surely be the most talented man that has ever lived.

Can't believe you missed it Ian, it was on all the news channels and was still the main feature of the news the following morning.

Last nights concert was amazing, what a line-up and what a way to end with that terrific firework display!

Oh dear you thought that too eh? She was truly dreadful wasn't she, although she did hit a couple of notes if I'm not mistaken When artists have to sing live any shortfall in musical ability becomes only too blatantly obvious.

I'm surprised that Gary Barlow offered her a spot but more surprised that he actually arranged for himself to duet with her


Madness's 'Our House' with the video projected onto Buck house was brilliant :thumbup: Ed Sheeran was very good too :thumbup:

That was really clever how they did that, another highlight was Alfie Boe and Renee Flaming singing on the balcony of the Palace.
 
Paul McCartney was **** quite frankly. For crying out loud, who was the Dutchess of Cornwell? His singing was out of key too. I'm glad I only caught it on Radio 2, as El Tel actually was quite sarcastic, especially when Rolf was on stage. I lost count of how many times that McCartney said 'yer know', and his arrogance shone through. Elton actually was quite funny and he openly admitted that he had no choice on what songs to sing, and openly admitted he had to wear pink because 'he is the biggest poof in the world'. His words by the way. Grace Jones? What the hell were they thinking? She has been certifiably bonkers for years. Who can ever forget when she went nuts and attacked Russell Harty?

Fighting talk! You can't say that about a Beatle. No I agree his voice is completely shot and has been for years but as the second best song writer of the 20th century he deserves his near mythical status. No need to say who was the best as everyone knows that.

I'm still amazed they let him sing that song... have a good look over the lyrics...
 

I always think it's strange that John Lennon ended up and still is more revered by the Americans who treat him as a God far more than us British who tend to go for McCartney. Lennon pretty much created the modern rock music genre with tracks like Tomorrow Never Knows which was years ahead of its time. Easily the number one in my books.
 

I've always been a Lennon man more than McCartney, mainly because lots of Macca's post Beatles output doesn't stand the test of time (although Lennon did a lot of rubbish too). Dying early helps to improve your credibility (mainly because you're not around to record songs like "The Pipes of Peace","The Frog Chorus" and "Ebony and Ivory").

I was only have joking about Harrison, by the end of the Beatles, and early post-Beatles his stuff was incredible. "While My Guitar Gently Weeps", "Something" and "Here Comes the Sun" still get me, every single time, and are probably my 3 favourite Beatles tracks.
