I was asked to do jury service about 15 years ago. I explained that I was Type1 and might need to either eat or have an injection. They told me I had better not do jury service.Has anyone been called up recently? Obviously my phone tells me my BG and I've asked the question, but had nothing useful in response, about how that works during a case.
Hypos aren't going to be my problem but rapidly elevating BG levels will be - I'm very sensitive to stress / cortisol. My ability to focus as they head over 15 gets interesting because usually I want to sleep! If I cant regularly check my phone & inject I'll be stuffed.
Yup - read that & can't see anything about phones as medical devices. Not sure if you’ve read this Gov.uk website
Jury service
What to do if you're asked to do jury service - taking time off work, delaying jury service, claiming expenses. Includes information from the withdrawn 5222, 5222A and Juror Charter guidance.www.gov.uk
Maybe try contacting them directly on the phone number or emailYup - read that & can't see anything about phones as medical devices.
I've told them on the initial forms but had zero constructive input back.
I'm not hugely bothered by doing it - I'll just have 2 weeks worth of work to catch up on when I get back so it will be a total PITA to be honest. I get needing to do our civic duty etc but we're a small company so no one else will do my job!my mum didn't have to do jury duty.
can give own experience as witness for court: allowed phone nearby with a person able to check for you also was allowed fast carbs.
school exam time theres special measures available and courts do have the ability to offer simular solutions.
really depends if you want to or not which way around would approach. Personally as you've said stress etc has a large effect on sugar levels, i would put in writing via email alongside recorded deliverly letter so they would have to respond and include any proof if do have to back that up gp letter or dsn/consultant or simple if use likes of libre sensor send them a wee day log of a particularly stressful day..
What do schools do in exams?
Have you tried calling the phone number I highlighted above? So far my emails seem to have vanished into a black hole but I'm thinking if I turn up on day 1 and ask what measures they've taken to deal with my 'additional needs' then it might mean I don't have to stay.
@Tony337 - perhaps they thought you would get miraculously cured by next time they called you up!!
Hi,I hate to be Johnny rain cloud but I’ve done jury service 3 times once I was on it for 9 weeks and I we had to stay in a hotel for the night must say I really enjoyed it , as far as my diabetes was concerned I informed the clerk and told him that if he saw me chomping on a chocolate bar there was a reason for it this was before Libre etc so I just kept my sugars elevated for a few hours and sorted it out when there was a recess of which there were many .
I recently got called and due to my being in dialysis 3 times a week I’ve been excused indefinitely
I was called up once when I was working and was on the exempt job list. I wish they’d call me up now I’m retired, I’d love to do it. Much easier as a type 2 on tablet and diet. I hope it’s not too troublesome for you @Circuspony and work won’t be two bad when you get back.I’ve never been called up.
I’d love a go at it..
