Has anyone been called up recently? Obviously my phone tells me my BG and I've asked the question, but had nothing useful in response, about how that works during a case.

Hypos aren't going to be my problem but rapidly elevating BG levels will be - I'm very sensitive to stress / cortisol. My ability to focus as they head over 15 gets interesting because usually I want to sleep! If I cant regularly check my phone & inject I'll be stuffed.

Not sure if you’ve read this Gov.uk website

I was asked to do jury service about 15 years ago. I explained that I was Type1 and might need to either eat or have an injection. They told me I had better not do jury service.

Yup - read that & can't see anything about phones as medical devices.

I've told them on the initial forms but had zero constructive input back.

I suffer with Bile Acid malabsorption as well as being type 1.
I pointed out the worst case (lol) scenarios for both and i didn't have to do it.

They then threatened me with the possibility of being called up again which made no sense to me what so ever......

Good luck

Tony

my mum didn't have to do jury duty.

can give own experience as witness for court: allowed phone nearby with a person able to check for you also was allowed fast carbs.

school exam time theres special measures available and courts do have the ability to offer simular solutions.

really depends if you want to or not which way around would approach. Personally as you've said stress etc has a large effect on sugar levels, i would put in writing via email alongside recorded deliverly letter so they would have to respond and include any proof if do have to back that up gp letter or dsn/consultant or simple if use likes of libre sensor send them a wee day log of a particularly stressful day..

I'm not hugely bothered by doing it - I'll just have 2 weeks worth of work to catch up on when I get back so it will be a total PITA to be honest. I get needing to do our civic duty etc but we're a small company so no one else will do my job!

So far my emails seem to have vanished into a black hole but I'm thinking if I turn up on day 1 and ask what measures they've taken to deal with my 'additional needs' then it might mean I don't have to stay.

What do schools do in exams?

@Tony337 - perhaps they thought you would get miraculously cured by next time they called you up!!

What do schools do in exams?

breaks can be arranged to treat both hypos and hypers. access to finger prick must be given. cgm wise can be arranged for someone else to monitor the sugar levels. some cases can arranged for alternative reader which doesnt have access to inet etc such as abotts own reader rather than using mobile phone. additional time 'clock stopped' for that person. stop clock wouldnt be relevant for jury ofc. the school exams go on the law from the equallity act 2010. work places also must allow for reasonable adjustments in place.

if its of help i can screenshot the adjustments i had in place removing my personal contact info.. bear in mind witness. no experience jury duty however managed to wriggle out of that before years ago before was diagnosed :)

I was called up many years ago when less well controlled than I am now and explained I may need to treat my condition if going low and take insulin and was excused, was relieved tbh.

Have you tried calling the phone number I highlighted above?
Telephone: 0300 456 1024

It may be best to speak to someone directly.

I’ve done jury duty 3 times and one was even out of my area, I was told unless you are in the exemption list then the only other thing that can get you out of it is if you can’t read or write. I was called up a 4th time but after 3 gos you can refuse. Plus by that time there was a reason on the exemption list for me to say no too.

Have to say unless you get a good case it’s pretty boring with a lot of sitting around and breaks. There was 2 guys were there for the two weeks never got picked out of the hat and just sat in the jury lounge for two weeks eating bacon butties & reading newspapers
