Just a rant... NICE guidelines

Does the NHS just ignore NICE guidelines and recommendations?
NICE guidelines say I should see a specialist about something that happened recently within 2 weeks, but the appointment I have is after 4 weeks. Is that even allowed?
Also, re: test strips for type 2? It doesn't say 'no tests strips ever!!', it lists situations where test strips should be prescribed, the list is quite long and would be applicable to most people I think.

Is it because they are 'just' guidelines that the NHS do not have to stick rigidly to them....perhaps if they fell within some 'law/government whitepaper' then maybe we would find getting test strips etc easier.

That's the problem HLW........they are 'guidelines'......not set in stone and if your Specialist has a waiting list then that would obviously be prioritised. In a perfect World it shoudn't happen........

As for the T2 and test strips issue......that too is something that is interpreted in various ways, not always the way we want. Personally I would fight tooth and nail for the strips, not sure we will change things any time soon though. However, we just advise people to put a logical argument for the strips, hence the post that Sue and I put together regarding getting strips prescribed.

Tips for Strips in Greetings and Introductions.
