Just been offered to start uni now instead of Sept, help!

Help! Help! Help!

I'm due to start my university course in September (Nursing). However, have just had a phonecall from the department offering me to start next Tuesday :shock:

Apparently, the NHS have been researching and their statistics show that the number of qualified nurses will fall short in 3 years (the time when I'll be qualifying). Now, they are offering all student nurses the chance to start their courses now instead of in September.

I would LOVE to jump at the chance, I feel like I'm just waiting around to start at the moment. My diabetes is pretty well controlled now (HBA1C of 7%) and I've had enough of preliminary training watching Casualty and saying:
'Oh gosh, that chap is clutching at his chest. Myocardial Infarction!' :lol:

HOWEVER.....I have no accommodation sorted, and no finance sorted. Apparently this can be done ASAP and sorted for me within the next couple of weeks, and as I'm fairly local to the university I can hold tight at home until a place becomes available.

What would you do? I've tried writing a pros and cons list, but they turn out equal! Do I let my heart rule my head and start now, or do I stay practical and boring ( :wink: ) and wait until September?

Any answers hugely appreciated guys! The head of Health and Social Care is ringing me back tomorrow about what I can do regarding finance, he's going to chase it all up for me and find out what my options are xxx

Advice SP........

BURN the lists !!!

Do what your heart tells you and get on with the Course at Uni. Nothing is insurmountable and with dedication and willpower you can move forward in your life. Grab the opportunity..... :wink:

Go for it!! You can live at home till you get sorted out with accommodation. Good luck to you. :D

GO for it and get a jump ahead in the job stakes on those who will now be finishing after you.

There's an expression "a year ago you'll wish you started today" I know it's not a year in this case but the message is the same-why wait? Good luck

Take on the challenge .
It won't be as hard as the initial shock of your diabetes . Go for it and show us all how diabetes shouldent affect our education :D :D :D :D :D

Sounds like a wonderful opportunity to me, especially if the uni has said the accommodation etc. will get sorted in a few weeks. Listen to your heart and go for it! Good luck with your studies. You can reach the top if you belief in yourself. :) :D

Do it now. Deciding to start now is the BIG decision. All the little stuff will fall into line in time.

Thankyou for all your support! I think the issue that makes it harder is that I have a guaranteed place, it's just whether to start sooner rather than later!

I've decided......*drumroll* :mrgreen:

I'm gonna go for it! This is, however, providing that my student finance and accomodation can be sorted within a reasonable time limit.

Rather scary to think this time next week I'll be an official student nurse :shock: Be prepared to hear me waffle about medical terminology :)

Fabulous news! i was going to write GO FOR IT!!!!! but clearly you have already decided. You have nothing to lose...they will have to sort out the finances for you... they can't have their student nurses stealing patients grapes because they can't afford to eat!

Best of luck..we need to find you a nurse smiley.

I think you've made the right decision Sparky, just make sure you keep us informed on your progress and anything new on the diabetes front.
