Just cant get it right :(

Hi, before you ask, no i haven't been on a Dafne course or anything like that.

The thing is i just cant seem to get my insulin doses right.

I take humalog mix 25 in the morning and novorapid and levimer both at dinner time, i either end up to high or too low and sometimes it works out depending on what i eat and how much exercise im doing.

I just want to know how to figure it out, like how many units of insulin should i take for each 10 grams of carbs? how do i work it out? does anybody know? :(

Me too got the carbs and cals book lovely pictures lol but don't know what to do next if I did the insulin to carb ratio I thought it was I would be a goner I have not been given any dietary info but waiting for an appointment which will be months away

Everyone's insulin to carb ratio is different and can vary from meal to meal, the HCP's recommend that you start on 1 unit for every 10g of carbs and adjust from there, there's an online version of a carb counting course similar to DAFNE that you may find helpful:

Thank you for your reply that's as start I will go with that its bad really that the most help is from forum not health care teams oh well at least we have this thanks again

That's an unusual mixture to be on... Normally you would be on either mixtard or bolus/basal...

Are there patterns of lows or highs ie night, mornings....what time do you exercise etc?

Normally on bolus you would start off at 1 unit of insulin to 10g of carb.. But this is only an average starter guide.. It will also be affected by your activitys and sleep and what type of carbs you eat.

Hi I am on levimir at night which seems ok novo for meals which I struggle with and get it wrong most days. But am a bit cautious I must admit and haven't experimented too much just going with initial doses at the moment

Hi take levermir as my long acting and nova rapid for meals ( I have been advised to split levermir to morning and night , reason behind this is that the levermir was not lasting long enough as reading were getting high, . All the people I know who take the same meds don t take any other insulin s other than a long acting and rapid one at meals times

I agree, it's a very unusual insulin mixture you're on. Is there any reason for it? As Noblehead said, start off at 1u per 10g and tweak from there. You'll end up chasing your tail though unless your long acting is correct. Although I wouldn't know where to begin with your insulin regime sorry!

..... Think you should be saying 1 (one) unit of insulin for 10g carb... But this is only for a bolus quick acting jab.

The 25mix bemuses me... I've never know anybody using two different regimes...?
