Just diagnosed type 1

Is it dilute lemon or do you mean fresh lemon? If it's dilute, I drink the robinsons sugar free, you should check the carb reading on the bottle just in case as sometimes it's 'no added sugar' rather than sugar free.

Hi i used to go to prime mover gym sheffield and they told me that a glass of water with lemon is good for you. I dont drink cordial or pop

@wholefrost
Please ring and ask for an "urgent" appt with a diabetic consultant...ask GP (or the receptionist) that as a newly diagnosed that you should be a priority to get stabilised with lower bloods. Emphasise "urgent n priority"

Have you been told how to give yourself a correction dose at all?

I got told I have diabetes type 1 after blood test and urine test. was shown a pen and how to use it. was shown the blood test kit and when to do it. She measured my height and weight and that's it. She also showed me some pics of plates on what I should be eating. was told she would administer my care from the surgery. was told to fill in a novo nord is booklet with blood levels and was put on 14 units of glargine. I was told my target was 6 and post 12. was told if above 6 to add 2 units to my injection. was told to have 1 injection 30 mins before my main meal once a day and was told to make an appointment for 1 month to review my progress

Do you have just one meal a day? I do this too!!
Are you adjusting your glargine by2 units every 3rd day?

I only ask because it looks like you are still giving 14 units of glargine?

Data in your book
Isn't showing how many units of quick acting insulin you are using per meal either?

This is important info.. As its like working with only 1/2 the info... And I certainly can't see that you have raised your glargine doses??

I can't quite believe two people in the same city have been treated so differently for the same condition to be honest.

I'm only new to it myself and you seem to be on a different regime to me (nothing wrong with that of course) so I can't really advise as I don't know enough myself.

I'm on what's called basal/bolus or slow acting and rapid acting. Slow acting first thing in morning and last thing at night then I inject rapid acting every time I eat.

The number for the diabetes centre at the Hallamshire is 0114 2713479. If you don't get anywhere with your GP, see if they will speak to your GP in order to get a referral.

Let us know how you get on.

What's quick acting insulin. This is the only one I've been given

So are you not injecting for food that you eat? This is quick acting insulin-it stops the rises after you eat.

Ie if you eat 3 meals a day you would take 3 quick acting injections to cover those 3 meals.

They have definitely diagnosed you as a T1? They haven't given you any tablets like metform to take have they?

Change your book when you alter your doses..lol!!!

to be honest I'm getting stressed as well. I don't know what to do

Get in touch with your diabetes team in the morning and explain that your bg levels have been running high, they'll advise you further on adjusting your insulin doses.

I'm a t1 had keotone in my urine. I'm only following what I have been told to do.

I know...lol..

Please ask GP Practice to be referred to hospital consultant tomorrow.

To be honest you aren't being treated correctly for a T1...

Relax... Honest... Stress will make things worse but you do need to get hold of your GP in the morning...

Hi Stewart, have just read your plight. I would agree with Donnelly ring your GP in the morning and insist you are referred immediately to a hospital, and see a specialist diabetic nurse or consultant. Don't accept any ifs or buts. Your treatment has been disgusting. As time goes by you will quickly realize how little GP surgeries know about T1 diabetes. Be strong and don't be put off. They know nothiiiing

Thanks guys I'm currently at the hallam shire and feel more reasurred I have a prescription for fast acting got more blood tests but feel beter

Good that you got script for fast acting... Now you need to talk anout food and what your daily life is so that they can start to balance your insulin properly!!!

Ask about a carb counting course such as DAFNE... you need this...to help you eat and understand how to manage your own diabetes longterm...
