Just did a test and am worried about results

Hi,
I haven't been classified as diabetic. But I wanted to monitor my blood sugar levels because of other issues I appear to have after eating sugary food.

I just did a test about an hour after eating a pasty and a chocolate slice. It came out as 1.4 mmol/L, I did the check chip and everything before hand and it said it was ok. My friend then did a strip and he got 1.2 mmol/L, even lower, he'd last eaten a ham roll 4 hours ago. Worried the meter wasn't working I used the sample 'normal' solution which gave a reading of 6.7 mmol/L.

A bit worried about our results we've done some searches but haven't really found anything that says about the low levels. Just has the normal as being below 7, but doesn't give a minimum. This chart:

Suggests it shouldn't be going that low??

Should we be worried?

What type of meter is it ?

If it has coded strips did you check that the strip code corresponds to the meter code.

Are the strips in date ?

Strips are in date. Meter is IME-DC. Codes match up, I followed the guide to confirm everything first with the test chip...

Like I said the sample normal solution came back right so it appears to be working properly?? I don't feel like collapsing though. Is there a certain finger you are supposed to prick?

The usual advice is to use one of the 3 outer fingers of the hand.

Levels as low as you quote even for a non-Diabetic are not good and you should discuss the results with your GP.

There are many reasons for low blood glucose levels which are often not connected with Diabetes.

Get it checked out. Don't assume anything just yet. May be your meter, might not !

As it was that low for both of you, I'd assume it's the meter. Try a few more tests to see what it says?

You could go and get another one to make sure, they usually have one on offer at Boots for £10 or so.

Also they can check your blood sugar at a GP, if you are unsure.

Hi,
False alarm, wasn't getting the blood on the strip right. Needs a good blob on the side not the top. Just got a 4.6 then a 5.2 after eating non carby food.

Thanks for you input
