I just found out I’m pregnant. My Hba1c is 72. I am soo scared and worried. I have been a terrible patient, I used to eat all sorts chocolates, sweets you name it. As soon as I found out I have thrown everything away and turned a new leaf! Stopping all refined sugars only having fruits if I’m craving a sweet taste. But I am soo scared at how high it is in this early pregnancy and I haven’t even told my GP or started any folic acid. I will call them tomorrow and request for a prescription ASAP. I’ve been shaking with nerves. I’m soo worried for the baby with how high my Hba1c is.

Hi @Jannie_O , welcome to the forum.

Are you being treated by a diabetes team with an endo and specialist diabetes nurse?
Those are the ones you want to contact for your diabetes care during pregnancy.

I've never been pregnant so no further advice from me, but tagging @EllieM , another T1 who has adult children by now and who is herself a child of a T1 mum.

Wish you all the best and a wonderful pregnancy and baby!

would let diabetic know soon as possible pretty certain they will likely keep a closer eye :)

pretty sure spotted @Nicola M a few months back say something about nhs rolling out hybrid closed loop sytems for those that are pregnant rolled out.

best wishes throughout your pregnancy

The first phase roll out which started in 2024 and runs for the next 5 years prioritises a list of people including those who are pregnant (https://www.england.nhs.uk/diabetes...betes-outcomes/hybrid-closed-loop-technology/) so definitely let your diabetes team know as they’ll likely be able to fast track getting you the systems needed.

In terms of your blood sugars you’re doing the right thing by trying to lower your blood sugars, like with any pregnancy they all have risks even those without any medical conditions so try not to worry too much, your GP and diabetes nurse/doctor will be able to help you every step of the way. I have no doubt there’s been plenty of people with diabetes who are pregnant in the same position as you.
