Just Started Testing

Hi. Be aware that early morning readings can be affected by overnight liver dumps of glucose so the 2 hour readings after food is probably more useful for you. The hash browns, possibly the carbs in the sausages and the natural sugar in the tomatoes probably pushed you blood sugar up? Have a look at the sausage and tomato packaging for carbs; potatoes are known problem for blood sugar. How about bacon instead of sausages and no hash browns etc? Yes, porridge is also a problem; I peaked this morning after a small bowl of home-made muesli based on porridge oats. Note that carbs taken with fats are absorbed more slowly so consider mixing foods a bit

It takes some time to get going but your readings will become lower. However, I had porridge before and after D Day and to begin with, it always gave me a spike, even when other foods were showing good results. However, after a few weeks, porridge doesn't phase me anymore. I've lost weight and taken exercise and now I do some sort of exercise 1 hour after every meal. Apparantly, that helps stimulate hormones and enzymes which improve the insulin response. Porridge now probably gives me a rise of 0.5 mmol/L

Now I am in the lower BG zone I tend to eat a lot of carbs but always unrefined carbs. One of the delights I have discovered is vegetarian indian food. I've done a couple of dishes from this book, http://www.amazon.co.uk/Prashad-Cookboo ... 432&sr=8-1 , Chole and a mixed lentil curry which, eaten with a wholegrain nan bread is fantastic. I often end up with low post prandial readings.

Yes they are. I bought my own and the book I got from the Desmond course says that a meter is beneficial. I am convinced that our local surgery has both eyes on the bottom line, rather than patients' well being.
