Hi everyone, just looking for some advice.

I vomited about 45 minutes ago and I'm not sure what the protocol is as I'm fairly newly diagnosed

Do I have anything to eat and if so, do I inject for it? Will it do me any harm to skip tea?

As long as your basal is correct, you can skip a meal. Keep testing though and maybe try and have a small snack prior to bed. If you start to drop, have a drink instead if you don't feel like eating. Hope you feel better soon.

Did you have any QA insulin before vomiting? if so then you'll have to test regularly to make sure your BS doesn't drop and have a sugary drink or glucose tablets handy, if you can manage them.

As a newly diagnosed type 1 it's very important to check blood glucose and ketone levels after vomiting as vomiting can be just one sign of DKA-hopefully not but really needs to be checked.

Hi thank you all for your help. My sugars are in 6 and my ketone levels are at 0.6. Really don't feel like eating or drinking anything but I am pushing water down my neck

Oh and I haven't injected any novorapid since 12:30pm

Just make sure you keep testing, especially before bed.

Keep yourself hydrated and keep a check on the levels and hopefully all will be well soon;)

If your ketones go above 1.5 and your blood sugar above 16.7 you should call out-of-hours or 111 for advice as you would be at risk of DKA.

As Paul says, try to keep hydrated - sipping water is best.

Thanks for everyone's help last night. Ketones are back down to 0.2 and I haven't vomited since 1am.

I just spoke to my dsn and she said if u can't eat I can drink fruit juice. When I asked if I should inject for it she said it depends how much carbohydrate and sugar is in it ... So do I need to inject? Or is it best just to stick to proper foods?

Glad you've stopped being sick now-do you feel like you could manage some light foods?

Orange juice needs to be injected for, same as any food. It's quick acting though so I would inject before drinking it. Glad you're feeling a bit better. Keep testing an take care !
