hello!

I tried ketogenic diet for one month

I lost lots of weight
my bulimia urges stopped
I stopped overeating
I stopped craving sweets
I stopped having cravings at all
my cholesterol and triglycerides completely reversed

that diet is life saving!
however: my blood sugar didn't reverse

can keto diet reverse diabetes? should I wait longer to see results?
I was a bit disappointed that while my cholesterol and lipids reversed, blood sugar didn't

any input please?

thanks!

Keep at it, my bloods seriously started getting better at the 6 to 8 week mark...:)

3 months ago my bloods were 18-20 mmol/l , now they are 5.5 - 6.5..........always

But with all of the positive results why would you be asking should you "keep on it" .....:)

Well done @greener

I'm a ketoite too, :)
Can't imagine going back to glucose burning, because I just feel sooooooo much better running on those lovely ketones.

And if you are only a month in, then you haven't fully keto-adapted yet. That can take around 6-8 weeks, I understand. So you might find it gets even better.

When you ask about blood sugar 'reversing' what do you mean?

I get better, lower bg readings when I am eating ketogenically, but nothing 'reverses' for me. I am one of the ones where my type 2 isn't caused by a fatty liver, so losing the fat on the liver (and there is no indication that I have much) wouldn't help, I don't think. So I just think of it as a way of eating for life, and enjoy it. :)

oh, thanks for the motivating news

indeed, I have an extremely fat liver
basically, I have a huge belly, more than 48inches perimeter and I am 5'10 in height.
so I assume I have very fatty liver

I definately want to stick with keto for all my life, but itsn't too hard?
I certainly can live without rice, pasta, potatoes, bread, but it's hard to find food that doesn't have it!
what do you advise me please?

I was on keto for a month, but then I had to travel via aeroplane and I had to eat something in the airport and inside the plane, and there was nothing no carb available, so I went back to carbs after that!

Best think I can suggest is you check out the dietdoctor.com website, and have a look in the low carb section of this forum. Lots of information on what people are eating on a daily basis in the Low Carb: What did you eat today thread.

Hope that helps! :)

I've been much lower carb for 3-4 weeks now, no bread for at least three week.

Generally blood sugar more stable, but slightly lower than before. Ketones at 1.2 - 1.5

Main change has been that I need much less carbs than previously for exercise. Run yesterday with 15g carbs, similar for an hours bike today. Not done anything longer yet.

No weight loss, which is not my aim necessarily (maybe a kg or two), but I am SOOOOO hungry.

when you are hungry, eat something highly fat and you're done, for few times
your brain will be retrained and you won't need carbs anymore and you won't be hungry anymore (when on keto, I could go easily 24h with no food at all)

I was on a ketogenic diet for 3 months with ketones more or less constantly between 1 and 4. It was an interesting experience but I have to say I did not feel that well - often as if in a mild hypo even though my BG was in the norm. I have slightly increased my carb intake to about 60g per day. I have also very slightly increased my protein intake. I am no longer in ketosis and I feel much better now: low carbing but eating just enough carbs not to go ketogenic.

I was on low carb diet for about two months trying get to Ketosis. After all this time urine test strips showed mid range ketones yesterday. About 40 ketones per 100ml when I tested. For about a week now I had been doing IF 16/8. Last night I could not sleep at all. Up the whole night. Mid day when I tested my urine it came as only a trace of ketones. Bg readings were good between 4.8 -6. I am type 2 trying to loose weight and control my BG. Has any body experienced inability to fall asleep when on ketosis and also Ketones disappearing without much change in the diet.
